About this listen

Addison Harper is abruptly summoned to Milverton at the behest of an abrasive lawyer. He plans to be in and out, back to the city lickety-split. Instead, he finds himself charmed by the small town with its delightful and eccentric residents, not to mention the rather easy-on-the-eye Sergeant Jake Murphy.

Despite the rocky start, Addison admits he's had a pleasant day out. That is, until returning to find the prickly old lawyer on the floor, and very much dead. Worse, it looks like murder, and Addison's fingerprints are all over the crime scene.

Murder on Milverton Square is the first in a wonderful new cozy mystery series set in an enchanting small town nestled amongst stunning New Zealand scenery. The Milverton Mysteries features a chaotic cast of local busybodies, delicious baked treats, a demanding and disdainful ginger cat, a very slow-burn romance with a rather appealing policeman, and of course, murder . . .

Superb, more please

Bought this as GB Ralph has written some excellent books and I am pleased to say he can do murder mysteries too. Engaging, witty and romps along at a great pace. Looking forward to the next in the series and more fabulous narration too.

Milverton mysteries are my favourite kind

I loved everything, I think. Not a fan of murders IRL, but would be odd with a murder mystery without one. The setting, the characters, the narrative, it’s absolutely magnificent. My new favourite. And Milverton may be a fictional place, but my dream of one day travelling to NZ has only been strengthened. On to the next book!

Mystery and Murder in the quaint town of Milverton…

A cozy mystery set in a small town where everybody knows everybody’s business. I enjoyed how we, the reader, get to tag along with Addison.
The characters are fun and very much “small town” folk. A ginger cat who epitomises the sassy nature of the ginger cat. Murder, a blossoming romance, and the townsfolk’s genuine community spirit will leave your cockles warmed. A fun read (actually listen because I got the audiobook version).

Flat white and pastries give toothache

The core of the story is decent, but there is way too much unnecessary filler and too little substance. The endless pastries, the endless flat whites really grated on my nerves. Even after a person died the pastry porn and gossip continued unchanged. The main character himself is the flat white -- too much milk. I waited for a little bit of depth, reflection, anything... The town where he lives feels like a cardboard backdrop, together with the cardboard female friends. I started listening to this during a very long car ride, but staring at the road proved to be less annoying.
