Summary

Miss Marple meets Oscar Wilde in this new series of cosy mysteries set in the picturesque Cotswolds village of Bunburry.

The picturesque village of Bunburry is about to be enhanced by the late Mrs Benson's mansion being transformed into a luxury hotel. But when the project is sabotaged, who is responsible? Careless workers, a disgruntled rival, a vengeful ex-husband, Mrs Benson's criminal nephew, or Mrs Benson's troubled ghost? After damage comes death, and it's up to amateur sleuth Alfie McAlister, his friends Liz and Marge, and police constable Emma Hollis to uncover the truth.

Nathaniel Parker, born in 1962, graduated from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and went on to join the Royal Shakespeare Company. His television career began in 1988 when he played Flying Officer 'Flash' Gordon in the LWT mini-series "Piece of Cake". He is also the lead in the BBC series "The Inspector Lynley Mysteries", based on the novels by Elizabeth George. Nathaniel Parker has an extensive list of audio books to his credit, ranging from the classics of Charles Dickens and Thomas Hardy to more modern writings and children's books.

love the bunberry idea but...

I think Nathaniel Parkers narration is saving these books now. I love the aunts and majority of characters but enough of the bullying drunken sergeant. His character belongs in a book set in the 70s or earlier but in a present day book? How has no one reported his abuse , Emmas work colleagues? villagers? suspects? Emma herself? Its all getting a bit silly now.

I really enjoy this series. A plot interesting enough to keep you listening but not really requiring full attention. it's like returning toa comfy pair of old slippers.

lovely

Brilliantly performed by Parker. This short novel has a couple of irritating characters, but there is a point to the framing of each character. Liz and Marge continue to delight. Recommended

Ready to move to Bunberry

If Helena Marchmont could write a Bunberry mystery each and every day, I’d gladly listen to them seven days a week. And how is this not a TV series yet?

Wonderful Cozy Mystery Series

I love the characters in Marchmont’s books. My favorite was adding young Noah into the story line.
This 11th in the series had a marvelous surprise ending! Looking forward to subsequent visits to Bunburry.
Nathaniel Parker does an outstanding job narrating.

Can’t wait for the next!

ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS!! I loved getting to know Oscar and Alfie better with each new story. The old ladies are so funny and I love the new characters who will be staples in Bunbury with the new hotel (at least I hope they become staples - I want to see how they do in Bunbury.)

Weak conclusion, great narrator

This has a rather weak conclusion. The perpetrator wasn't even a part of the story until the end. This seems like it was a last minute ending. The narrator is great!
