Summary
Kitty Underhay is dancing...with death.
Winter 1934. Kitty Underhay is enjoying a night off from wedding planning as she attends a charity ball at the home of Lady Eliza Foxley. She’s excited to see her father, roguish Edgar Underhay, who is also a guest in the house. But the evening of cocktails and waltzing turns into a dance macabre when Edgar finds their lively, fun-loving hostess dead, strangled by her own silk stocking.
Who has made this uncharitable donation to the evening’s entertainments? When suspicion falls on Edgar and he is arrested for murder, Kitty has to act fast if she doesn’t want her father walking her down the aisle in shackles. Together with her fiancé, Matthew, they vow to clear Edgar’s name and discover who used hosiery to commit homicide.
Lady Eliza’s widowed sister is the main beneficiary of her will, but before Kitty and Matt can question her, she is struck down by a severe case of poisoning. Time is running out for Kitty to solve this case and make it to the church on time. But with a devious killer on the loose, will she end up leaving as a newlywed, or newly dead?
An absolutely addictive and unputdownable Golden Age cozy murder mystery full of twists! Perfect for fans of Agatha Christie, T E Kinsey, and Lee Strauss.

Love this book series!
This was a good story, even though I worked out who the murderer was about half way through, it was very predictable. I enjoyed it Karen Cass is wonderful as the narrator her performance is fantastic. I got the feeling this was a bit rushed, there were bits I wasn't expecting to happen. The next book should be interesting, I'm hoping Helena is going to have a bit more fun with the stories and open it up to ghost mysteries and unusual events. My dad lives in Torquay and when I'm down from London we go to Brixham and Dartmouth. There are some fantastic places Helena could sent some weird and wonderful stories of mystery and murder!

Easy Listening
Very similar to the Daisy Dalrimple mysteries . Set in the same period. Emancipated young woman falls in love with older, widowed 'Private' detective and helps solve murders. Quite enjoyable.

Most enjoyable
Kitty is such an asset to Inspector Greville ! I did suspect the whodunnit , but it wasn’t spoiled due to other stories and possible theories

Some early narration rather dull.
Sluggish narration early on in the story was disappointing. Otherwise I enjoyed the story and look forward to the next book.

Murder at the Charity Ball
Another terrific murder mystery with Miss Kitty Underhay and Captain Timothy Bryant, as they approach their up and coming marriage. With a murder at the Ball there seems no end of suspects including Kitty's own father who was staying with the victim. As Kitty wishes him to walk her down the isle they rush in to solving the case. Read brilliantly once again by Karen Cass.

great series
I love hearing about Kitty and Matt's adventures. The story was not as strong as previous stories in the series but still very good nonetheless. My only real complaint continues to be the narration. The typical British flat tone and sing songy cadence will be the death of the cozy mystery. Dry, flat, unemotional reading like she's reading a user's manual regardless of walking on a path or finding a body. Describing murder and emotion instead of allowing us to feel it. I don't want to hear it narrated that the character was angry, I want the character to sound angry. British women narrators are terrible at that. The only exception so far was Alex Tragere, the original narrator to this series. If she would come back and narrate every book in the series it would be an outstanding series instead of typical. Alex's characters dripped with emotion and it endeared each character to you. But to make it worse, Cass has an odd lift or tilt to her voice that comes across as tedium, like narrating for her is just so tedious. And she infects every single character with it. I implore the author to get Tragere to narrate every book in the series when she's done with her schooling. You get get a fortune for this series then.

Great latest adventure for Kitty & Matt
Helena Dixon never fails to bring us the ever romantic couple of Kitty and Matt who are on another adventure of ‘daring do’ - doubly exciting as the storyline is set during the festive season and days leading up to their wedding. Nostalgic English Christmas is the backdrop for murder and as the tension mounts, so does family suspicions about who will be the next victim and which one of them is guilty. Karen Cass does a fab job on the narration as always.
