About this listen
Retired music teacher Susan Wiles is enjoying Christmas dinner with her family, when she receives an unexpected phone call. Her birth mother, Audrey Stirling, has been arrested for killing her husband! Richard Stirling had no shortage of enemies, all with viable motives, but the evidence points directly at Audrey. To make matters worse, the judge puts Audrey, whose relationship with Susan has been historically volatile, on house arrest while awaiting trial. She will live with Susan 24/7, adding extra motivation for Susan to find the real killer and send her mother back to Florida. Along the way, Susan backslides on her promise to her family by once again putting herself in danger.
Surrounded by her detective daughter, her layer father who comes out of retirement to represent Audrey, and her mysterious half-brother, Susan discovers that Murder Is Homework!

They’re all good, but this is the best cozy mystery ever!
Susan and Mike are having a great Christmas Evan is down from medical school and her birth mom and Jonathan her birth dad were all there to have Christmas dinner. It isn’t until later when Susan gets a call saying her birth mom Audrey was arrested for killing her abusive boyfriend Richard that the Christmas spirit and Susan’s diet for diabetes is broken. Susan already feeling torn between thinking she did it in self-defense to going against everyone’s wishes and trying to find out who really did it. This is my favorite Sugar Berry Falls mysteries so far. I know I always say that but this one really is it made me laugh so much and I love Susan‘s relationship with her mom and I mostly love that Susan is a normal woman who has normal thoughts and shops at Walmart. This is a great book in one I highly recommend! I hope Sara Cole Pepper remains the narrator for The Sugar Berry Falls mysteries voice I thought she does an awesome job with the books.

No homework required to enjoy this book
I enjoyed this book. This is book nine in the series and having listened to a few of the other books, I can say listening to them out of order doesn't effect the enjoyment. All have been cleverly plotted out to keep the reader or listener hooked and this book was no different and the reason why the author is being added as one of my favourite author's. The reason I liked the book so much was because of the mystery. I had no clue who the killer was and was very surprised when it was revealed, I kept waiting for a surprise that would have a different out come but was shocked when it did come. The characters were the other reason, Susan means well and tries to help but somehow it all ways lands her in trouble with her detective daughter. The family dynamics adds to the story and keeps you asking questions. I can't wait for the next book.
Family life for Susan is complicated but when her birth mother rings her to say she has been arrested for killing her abusive husband the whole family rallies around to help. Audrey who is visiting for Christmas and wouldn't survive in jail is order to stay with Susan under house arrest. The two don't get on at the best of times and this certainly is not the best of times. All the evidence points to Audrey as the killer, she just found out he was cheating on her, she lied about when she last saw him and she brought the gun that killed him. But there are plenty of other suspects and if Susan wants to keep her mother out of jail and her house she will have to ignore her daughters advice and question them all.
I liked the narrator. She sounded perfect for the characters and I had no problems picturing all the characters from the voices she used.
