About this listen

Now that Geraldine Porter is retired, she's got time to devote to her favorite craft. You'd think the world of shoe-box-sized Victorian shadowboxes and little ceramic bathtubs would be trouble free. But Gerry's problems are anything but tiny...

As chairwoman of the local Dollhouse and Miniatures Fair and babysitter for her precocious granddaughter, Gerry's got enough to think about without the curious behavior of her friend Linda Reed. Misfortune seems to follow Linda like a string of melted glue from a low-end glue gun. So when Linda and her prized miniature Governor Winthrop desk go missing the morning of the fair, a worried and annoyed Gerry gets stuck manning two tables alone. Before the week is out, a young woman and prominent townsperson are murdered, and Linda's Governor Winthrop turns up in a most bizarre place. Then someone starts threatening Gerry. And Linda knows more than she lets on. Now Gerry must get to the bottom of things, or it's going to be big trouble....

Miniature Mystery

This is a neat little Cozy mystery. Interesting plot with good well defined characters, the fact that our amateur sleuth is a crafty type producing various shoe box sized room settings is of added interest. The author doesn't dwell on this hobby but gives an insight into what sounds like an interesting pastime, the story itself is well paced and expertly narrated by Jennifer Pickens whose voices are perfect for the genre. Recommended easy listen, looking forward to reviewing book 2 in the series shortly.
I was kindly given a copy of the book by the narrator and leave this honest review voluntarily. *****

Not a small story

I enjoyed this book. It's a very different craft and one that I know nothing about but that doesn't matter because despite the series being called the miniatures the author doesn't go into any detail and it's not the main focus of the story, which is the mystery. The home life was fun, especially the grand daughter. The characters were mostly like able but I did get annoyed with the friend who wanted help but wouldn't talk to her. The mystery was interesting and took many different directions.
Geraldine's left manning two stalls when her friend and fellow crafted disappears before the doors are opened. In the middle of the night she is woken up by a frantic phone call asking for help and a middle of the night pick up. Her friend refuses to explain but Geraldine suspects it has something to do with her adopted son. Then a dead body is found nearly the same location and Geraldine really starts to worry about her friend. With her nephew leading the investigation into the murder Geraldine can't help but get involved. Then another body is discovered and some gems are stolen from the jewerly store. Are the two cases connected? Geraldine can't help but think so when the gems turn up in her belongings and her friend gets her to give her a chance to talk to her son before handing them. But by doing so is it putting her life in danger
I liked the narrator. She used her voice well to give the characters there own voice.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Yaaawn

I was so excited to have a mystery with my beloved hobby as a theme. This book was just so boring. I dont know if its the writing style or the story itself. I got to two hours left and decided to give up, as i realised it was almost a chore to listen to. Disappointing
