Summary

Retirement is a time for knitting, gardening, and an occasional quiet lunch with friends, according to Kathleen Williamson. Her sister Andrea has an altogether different point of view. When the sisters go to the Canaan Valley to search for paintings mentioned in a document found in an old hotel once owned by their grandparents - paintings that might be Monets - Andrea immediately becomes involved in tracking down a murderer. Kathleen would much rather be looking for the paintings, but she goes along with Andrea, since the victim was their hotel-keeper, murdered just down the hall from their room. The question is: Does the murder have something to do with the elusive paintings?

There are many clues and many suspects, including hotel staff, valley residents, and the mysterious foreigners who come from the Eastern Seaboard for skiing. There are also many types of danger-icy roads, sub-zero temperatures, and a killer who doesn't care how many people die in the attempt to make sure the right ones do.

Very entertaining and kept me in suspense until the end. Cozy mysterious as they are not full of violent details of the murders. A good suspense mystery.

Signs of a murder

I enjoyed this fun cozy mystery. This is the first book I have read or listened too by this author (and it's also the first book in the series) but it won't be my last as the characters are interesting and I want to see how things develop. I like the fact that the two main characters and the pair involved in the mystery are older and not afraid to use there age to get what they want but this young enough to be adventurous. The support characters, like the niece and the new receptionist, come across as likeable. The mystery was well worked, with two mystery running throughout and looking into one often lead to clues in the other being discovered. There was plenty of suspects to keep you guessing and entertained.
Kathleen and Andrea decide to pay there niece a visit when she discovers papers in the hotel she is working at, that claim it was once owner by there grandparents and it might still contain two valuable paintings by a well known artist. But find the work of art turns out to be a lot harder than they thought when one of the owners is found dead. It could have very easily have been there niece who was working on the receptions desk just minutes before. Was the killer after the paintings or was the motive more personal? There are very few clues for the police to work with and with a hotel full of guests that could leave at any time they have there work cut out for them. That is unless the killer isn't finished. Can Kathleen and Andrea help keep there niece safe by finding a killer or is more than bones going to get broken at the ski lodge? And what about the art?
I liked the narrator. She made sure to give each character there own and unique voice.
