Summary

All those years of adolescent fantasies and this was how Bowie Bodine first touched my boobs. And he apologized. Real life was stupid and unfair.

Small town deputy Cassidy Tucker’s dating life is a train wreck on repeat. All she ever wanted was a solid partner. A man to share pajamas with. The handsome, big-hearted Bowie Bodine. Wait. Scratch that. Mr. You’re-Like-a-Sister-to-Me is not welcome in her fantasies.

She and Bowie aren’t going to happen - that’s been clear for a long time - and as for the rest of mankind? Cassidy’s officially giving up on love and adopting cats. Good thing the cold case disappearance of Callie Kendall is heating up to keep her distracted. Except the investigation is testing her friendship with all the Bodines - Bowie in particular.

Bowie knows he can’t have his little sister’s best friend. He made a promise and he’s determined to keep it. But putting distance between them isn’t easy - not when she lives right next door.

Having her poke around trying to prove his father’s guilt isn’t helping either. All Bowie has ever wanted is to shed the No-Good Bodine reputation. It’s looking like he’ll never be free of that shadow.

But one nocturnal animal, a feverish against-the-wall kiss, and absolutely zero pajamas has a way of changing everything.

Always You

Childhood friends to lovers romances are always a favorite for me, so I couldn't wait to read Bowie and Cassidy's story. I loved getting a glimpse of their history in the beginning chapters and insight into why these two still weren't together (despite being obviously in love with each other). The pining and sexual tension in the beginning was so good and my heart was aching for them. Unfortunately, things shifted very awkwardly around the midpoint (seriously, a bat!?) and I felt like all that build up was wasted. The reasoning behind all the years of angst was also a bit anticlimactic, though I understand why it was so earth shattering to Bowie. The pacing of the book really slowed down in the second half and there really wasn't much going on besides the revelations about the Bodine family and the Kendall case. The epilogue was very cute though and I'm curious to see how Junie's story unfolds.

The narration by Stephen Dexter and Natalie Duke was great and they voiced all of the characters so well. I had no problem distinguishing between characters and they were able to convey so much emotion in their performances.

Moonshine Kiss

I cant get enough of Bootleg Springs and their bootleg justice. I wish so much that I could actually be a part of this fun, lively, small town. From they Mayor holding secret town meetings all the way down to the Sheriffs wife ending up in a spot of trouble after some hard moonshine drinking. I was in tears of laughter. Cassidy & Bowie of such a lovely mess. This was the perfect best friend’s older brother romance! Cant wait for the rest of the series.

Bowie and Cassidy - a beautiful second chance

This book is the perfect fun, heart warming, small town romance and it is filled with all the love, the emotions, and the connections. The narration by Natalie Duke and Stephen Kiss is perfect for these two characters. They bring them to life. Bowie Bodine is an assistant principal who lives in small town Bootleg Springs, WV. He has 3 brothers and a sister. Cassidy is a deputy sheriff in the town and is Bowie’s sister’s best friend. Cassidy has loved him since she was a little girl but 8 years ago Bowie told her he only thought of her as a little sister and that would not change. But now circumstances and the disappearance investigation hearing up changes things and restarts their HEA journey. Bowie and Cassidy are second chance, childhood friends sizzling chemistry perfection and watching them stumble through was fun and heartwarming. Most of the angst in this book is from outside forces which is an interesting twist. Bootleg Springs is just the most hilarious, heart warming, sweet, nosy, eccentric small town that ever existed. This hilarious romance has a little bit of everything - sweet moments, fan your face steam, painful pasts, strong friendships, crazy families, quirky town folks, snort worthy moments, a mystery, surprises, and so much love. There is an overarching mystery plot line that runs through this series so the series needs to be enjoyed in order. I am excited to read what’s next for the Bodine brothers.

Absolutely love this series

I've been listening through this series for the past few months and absolutely love it. The setting is so engaging, the mystery throughout the series is really intriguing, and the characters are super lovable. I'm pretty picky about my romances; this one is great!
The narration is fantastic: both narrators do such a good job bringing all these people to life!

One of my favorite friends to lovers stories!

Cassidy Tucker and Bowie Bodine have been circling around each other for years. Years of mixed messages, boundries, and no one ever making a move. I like that this feels like friends to lovers because they have know each other so long, but it is actually a super slow burn because they have wanted each other for so long. There is so much “will they, won’t they.” It isn’t that way because someone is afraid to mess things up, it’s that way because their closeness brings a familiarity that allows for confusion between flirting and friendliness. This was both extra fun and extra frustrating. Frustrating in the “come one guys, make a move” sort of way. Fun because when they came together I was extra invested. The closeness also made for some great humor. I really love Cassidy and Bowie’s story. This novel also did a lot to progress the series mystery, keep you connected to the previous couples, and grow your love for the town and side characters. This series is so much fun.

Another fantastic audio performance by Natalie Duke and Stephen Dexter. I am beyond impressed with their performances in this book and this series.

Grab the tissues

I think I cried more and laughed hard with Bowie and Cassidy. A rare young love that was denied and requitted for so long. The burn was long and hard fought. Natalie and Stephen were able to express the feelings in these two perfectly. My heart is still trying to catch up and the withdrawals of this story will take time to recover.
