Summary

Lord of the mystical and uncanny, Magnus the Red has long studied the ancient crafts of sorcery. A psyker without peer, save only for the Emperor himself, he commands his loyal followers of the Thousand Sons Legion in the Great Crusade, though also vigilant for any lost knowledge they might recover from the remains of dead human civilisations.

Now, fighting alongside his brother Perturabo of the Iron Warriors, Magnus begins to foresee an approaching nexus of fate - will he remain true to their mutual aims or divert his own efforts towards furthering his own mastery of the warp?

I am new to warhammer-books

But I am not new to books. This book was just an endless description of machoguys being macho and doing macho stuff. The story? Don't really know. Did it have one?

Some of the voices were so weird that it threw me out of everything, just making me think "man, that's a dumb voice" and completely miss what was being said. I am gonna try out one more Warhammer-book, but if this is considered a good one (I was recommended this one), I really hope you black library-fans will pick up something from outside black library to actually get a good read. Compared to this it really could be anything.

Meh

So many of these primarch books are really not hitting the spot. Saved by the great narrator again.

Iron Warriors were the surprising stars of the book.

Excellent insight into both the Thousand Sons and Iron Warriors. I really enjoyed the interactions between the two legions. Would definitely recommend.

Worth a listen

The performance and story is great. No idea why Vashti gets so much attention.

I AM MAGNUS, MASTER OF PROSPERO!

WOW this was AMAZING. This is Warhammer storytelling at its Best. great character moments abound in the doomed world of Morningstar as Magnus and Perturabo organize a mass evacuation from a world being torn apart in every level. I never would have thought that Magnus and Purturabo could be true friends but that's exactly what we get here. Also a ghost ship without compare, a demon from an old earth legends, created by the hateful souls of condemned PSYKERS. An absolutely EPIC struggle, mind over matter, numbers vs time, souls vs souls. this is one of the best if the Horus Heresy novels without ANY DOUBT.

Excessive Excess

There's a decent amount of good stuff here, I enjoyed it for sure. But there were so many moments of such extreme that it could fill several books with an appropriate volume of tension. Between the hand-waving magic stuff and constant escalation of crisis, its teeth were made dull by the end.

The best...

Primarch(s) story in this particular series. It's almost as much Perturabo's story as much as it is Magnus's. and old Pert shines here.
