Summary

From USA Today bestselling author Helena Hunting comes the second installment in the Lakeside series, where a gutsy heroine confronts family secrets and personal struggles in the town of Pearl Lake.

Teagan Firestone has always been the dutiful daughter, especially since her mom died. But as her father finally begins to move on, it’s her turn to do the same. Her destination: Pearl Lake, a close-knit community with an entrepreneurial spirit and secrets of its own.

One of them is Aaron Saunders, who dropped out of college to work construction for Pearl Lake’s upper class. He’s a mystery and has a playboy reputation - that is, until he meets Teagan. Neither one of them is looking for love, but in a town this small, it’s hard not to let your heart get involved.

As their romance heats up, Aaron’s elusive past comes to light, and Teagan is there for him, bringing them even closer together. But when Teagan is forced to face her own demons, her inability to accept the support of friends and family threatens the life she’s worked so hard to build.

Can Aaron love her, even when she can’t love herself?

Loved how it started...

I loved how this started, but I didn't really enjoy the direction this took for both he MC's. Aaron and Teagan both had a personal conflict that I just didn't really enjoy in the book. For me, it took away from the great relationship they both started out as.

Touches on many pertinent issues

After finishing the book I can definitely appreciate how many family and interpersonal relationships along with social stigma it addresses that shape so many lives.

And yet it isn’t depressing overall, it just provides insight.

Love On The Lake

Oh my goodness, I loved this one! Just grab it now. I didn't read the first one and will probably go back and grab it and read it. Teagan and Aaron are so great together. Teagan needs somewhere to go to just get away and she ends up in at the lake and Aaron is working at construction even though there is so much more to him. Put these two together and there are no only sparks but fireworks!

Writing Style: Dual POVs / Drama with balanced angst and pathos

Story - 5 stars
Great treatment of anxiety and how to both be supportive and seek support. Bravo, Helena Hunting!

Performance - 5 stars
The narrating duo was well paired and earned 2 big thumbs up from this audiobook junkie.

Overall - 5 glowing stars!

Bonus: The author did a wonderful read-along in her Facebook group dedicated to read alongs. I find that read alongs enhance my reading experience, so I was super happy to have been able to participate timely in this novel's read-along.

Good

I enjoyed this one. I enjoyed the banter when Aaron and Teagan first meet. And how he constantly called himself a donkey. That was funny. This wasn’t my favorite book by Helena. But it held my interest and I cared for the characters enough to want to see what happens.

Teagan and Aaron's Story

I wasn't as taken with Teagan and Aaron's story. I didn't connect with Teagan. I found her to be a remarkably frustrating character. The road to her redemption was slow paced and arduous. Then the ending wrapped up sooo fast. Part of the Kindle Unlimited catalog.

My fave read/listen of 2022 so far

This book has my whole heart. I listened to the audio literally right when I was done reading the book.

CJ Bloom and Aaron Shedlock are 2 of my favorite (if not my favorite) narrators. I seek out books with them narrating.

I highly recommend this listen!

Imperfectly Perfect

I love how this author doesn't run from human frailties. She tackles them head on with all their successes and ugliness.

I had a moment when it was hard for me to like Teagan. It was easy for me to get all judgy. She was lying and working to destroy a wonderful relationship. I had to step back, keep listening with an open heart and finally realized she had some serious emotional problems that she had been battling since she was 6. I won't give spoilers away, but this was an eye opener for me to always question a diagnosis and treatments.

Fabulous book and series.

Beautiful story.

“I will love you even when you can’t love yourself”
This book hits me right in the feels. I adore the way author Helena Hunting addresses Teagan’s addiction. It feels real without stigma and making her character someone that should be ashamed of yourself. The love and support of her dad, brothers, her boyfriend Aaron and the Pearl Lake community is beautiful. I love the story, well written and unforgettable story. Highly recommend this book.
