Summary

Twenty-six-year-old Katie Macauley has placed all her hope in Hope Springs, a small town in the 1870 Wyoming Territory. But if she wants to return home to Ireland to make amends with her estranged family, she’ll need to convince the influential Joseph Archer to hold true to his word and keep her on his payroll as his housekeeper - despite her Irish roots. The town is caught in an ongoing feud between the “Reds” - the frontiersmen who would rather see all the Irish run out of town and the Irish immigrants who are fighting to make a home for themselves in the New World.

When Joseph agrees to keep Katie on ash is housekeeper, the feud erupts anew, and Katie becomes the reluctant figurehead for the Irish townsfolk. As the violence escalates throughout the town, Katie must choose between the two men who have been vying for her love - though only one might be able to restore hope to her heart.

Absolutey Wonderful

Would you consider the audio edition of Longing for Home to be better than the print version?

This is the best book I have listened to in a very long time and that is really saying something!!!! I am so glad I listened to this one, instead of reading it. Great Job Sarah Eden and Cassandra Campbell.

What did you like best about this story?

This book is not just a romantic story, although it has a very sweet love story involved, but it has a great overall story behind it. I loved the characters and the learning and growing they do throughout the story. I loved the Irish history, something that was new for me. I was sad when it ended and wish the author would keep the story going for longer. Maybe book 2 :) !! I loved the characters and would be interested in seeing how life plays out in their future.

Which character – as performed by Cassandra Campbell – was your favorite?

The performance was incredible and I enjoyed listening to all the voices she used for each character, none were annoying!!!!! The accents were awesome!

If you could take any character from Longing for Home out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Joseph. I want to know more of his history with his wife.

Any additional comments?

Best audio book I have listened to in a long time!!!!

A sweet love story.

Good character development and a nice clean love story. I have a soft spot for the Irish accent. The end left me wanting to read the sequel.

Great narration!

Accents are spot on!! Very well done. Only complaint is that the voicing for Joseph Archer sounds as if he's always angry/harsh/critical (which I don't believe he is), as if he's always talking through gritted teeth. And that could just be the result of the narrator lowering her natural voice. It wasn't always misplaced given the storyline, but it never changed when the dialogue or feeling of the scene was more subdued and tender. Otherwise, everything was beautifully performed!! The Irish accent, wit, and inflection was fantastic!
Story was well written and the author really captured the feelings and sentiment of the era.

sweet romance

Great story and the performance was terrific!!
I was swept right in and had a hard time putting it down. I appreciated the history between the Irish and English. I am assuming the sequel has closure with Katie's family in Ireland.

Ended too soon, but it was fun to read

I truly loved listening to the Irish brogue of the performer. This was a wonderful story and I highly recommend it. I found myself angry for Katy and crying through her struggles. It easily touches your emotions and brings you back to a time when prejudice was just a way of life. My only complaint is that it seemed to end a few chapters too early. It seems as though the major question was resolved, but still leaves you hanging on two fairly major things (well three) that the novel hinges around. The main theme is answered...but I was left with too many questions. I still highly recommend reading it and I'll definitely check out other books by the author. She's a very talented writer.

Poorly written

The plot is interesting but it doesn't go any where. The book ends with nothing being resolved. The characters are all wonderful people. Too wonderful. People have a past but no real character flaws. The many descriptions are repetitive . This is a love story only.

A wonderful Historical Romance with a cliff-hanger

This is a new series for Sarah Eden and a great love story about a town with wonderful characters. I cared about the characters so much in this story. You ache over the losses of the 3 main characters, Tavish, Katie and Joseph. They have all been through personal tragedies and have come out scarred. They each have secrets and a desire for a mended life. Their little town on the frontier has its difficulties. It is a very well-written love triangle. I will say that you have to have the 2nd book to know who she ends up with but the second book is written and available. Ms. Eden's books are so good, all of them, that I buy them the first week they are out and pay full-price. Not only that, but I purchase them in audio, for kindle and in paperback. Most of them are friends I will read again and again. She writes clean romances which is an absolute rarity. This is clean and with only a mention or two of prayer or Church.

Combine the fiery Irish tempers with the calming influence of an arbitor, as well as love for land and country and severe prejudice and you have a story of the old west and passionate story of a frontier town. Add to that a sweet Irish lass terrified of children, with an influential east coast businessman turned farmer with 2 children needing care, and a handsome Irishman farmer trying to win the only girl that's caught his eye since his love died years ago and you have a poignant, sweet and joyous story of the old west. These characters are so well-drawn that you love and care for them immediately.

If you haven't read any of Sarah Eden's books before, start here. In her series she will take peripheral characters from the one book and make them major characters in her next book with glances at the original characters from the previous books. You might want to look for The Kiss of a Stranger or Seeking Persephone. Both are award winning books and excellent. My sister is reading some of these books for the first time and loves them. My father picked up Seeking Persephone, it was something my sister brought to read, and read it through. He really enjoyed it. Sarah Eden is an excellent author all the way around. You won't be disappointed.

An Irish Romance

Very satisfyingly thorough portrayal of love in the midst of sorrow, hard work, persecution, and longing.
