Summary
Sunday Times number one best seller!
Lies lies lies, sometimes they come back to hurt you....
Daisy and Simon’s marriage is great, isn’t it?
After years together, the arrival of longed-for daughter Millie sealed everything in place. A happy little family of three.
And so what if Simon drinks a bit too much sometimes - Daisy’s used to it, she knows he’s letting off steam. Until one night at a party things spiral horribly out of control. And that happy little family of three will never be the same again.
In Lies, Lies, Lies, Sunday Times best seller Adele Parks explores the darkest corners of a relationship in free fall in a mesmerising tale of marriage and secrets.
Critic reviews
"Gripping, moving and elegantly written." (Marian Keyes)
"Brilliantly twisty and makes for a thrilling, unputdownable read but is also so insightful about human nature: her characters, with all their flaws and secrets, are utterly real. A triumph." (Lucy Foley)

Disappointing
Well written but the characters are awful and have no common sense between them. The main character (the wife) is completely self absorbed and to give an example without spoiling the story, she arrives at a party and a stranger doesn't introduce himself immediately she pegs him as a sexist pig. Am I supposed to believe that your husband arriving drunk to your child school performance swearing, abusive and falling over into the crowd, or leaving the daughter in the bath in a drunken stupor as she cut her head open isnt worth packing his bags? She ignores all of his bad behaviour and while I can believe that a lot of people in an abusive relationship don't leave straightaway, this isn't the case. The man is a falling down drunk and she attends a party with him knowing what state he will get in because it is expected of her and they both make the stupidest decisions at every turn. It's all completely unbelievable and disappointing because I like these type of books, with the exception of the daughter every character is unlikeable and I don't think it was intended that way. I'm trying to persevere with the book, the narration is good, the writing is good but the story and events let it down. I wasted a credit.

Recommended - the best domestic noir novel I’ve come across in a long time
Stretches credulity in a couple of places (characters seem to behave unlike their erstwhile selves), and I’m a weirdo I know but I’d have preferred less twists as they gave the novel an OTT feel (though I know there’s a pressure to deliver these by the truckload currently) but those reservations aside, I’d heartily recommend this. For me what raised it up high was the first half and in particular the portrait of Simon as a drinker. I thought this brilliant - having lived with an alcoholic it rang very true - as did Daisy’s response to her husband. Great narration on Audible too this deserves to do very well.

Well Crafted but a miserable read
Adele Parks is an accomplished writer and this book will satisfy fans of the dark miserable psychological thriller that are so popular recently. Unfortunately the nasty, self absorbed, damaged characters did nothing to entice me to enjoy this listen. I felt sorry for the innocent child, and the selfish stupid parents left me cold. I worked out most of the twists and turns as I’ve read a lot of top ten books over the last few years and they all have some similarities. I think I’ll be in the minority and that most people will love Lies, Lies, Lies, but although it was well crafted and the narrators did a great job, this one wasn’t for me.

Weird
The story was just a bit grim the whole way through. Not that I want a story that’s all sunshine and rainbows but some points of the book are very triggering. The ending was just ridiculous, sooo many plot holes. The author might want to do some research on how babies are made 😂🙄

Just not sure
I really wanted to like this book. it started off okay and I really expected it to take off but sadly it fell flat. I guessed part of the storyline although there was another twist at the end that I didn't get.
The most annoying thing is that the writer hadn't done their research. I don't want to give the storyline away, but as someone who works in the criminal justice system I have knowledge of it and can confirm that there is no such thing as an 'on licence release ' . everyone who serves a prison sentence is released on licence. it is also near impossible for someone to get an extended licence for the offence he committed so there would be no need for parole. also a parole hearing does not take place in the governor's office.
it started off so well but I think the writer tried to make it too intriguing and intricate and consequently failed.

Good Holiday Read
This is a book about husband and wife Daisy and Simon and their circle of friends that have all know each other since university days.
I didn't particularly take to any of the characters but it was a great study of people, their complicated friendships, problems, secrets and how important and convoluted friendship can be.
I wouldn't describe this as gripping , although the ending certainly was it took about three quarters of the way through before I would say that.
There are definitely some great twist but to me the very last one was a twist too far without giving anything away. This didn't dampen my enjoyment at all and I would recommend this very well written book with excellent narration.

Best book I’ve read in 2019
I’ve read all of Adele Park’s books and love then but she has really outdone herself this time ... this book grips from the very beginnings it has so many omg moments and I didn’t see any of them coming .. I didn’t want it so end .... if you want to be totally immersed in a book this is for you but make sure you set the time aside as you will not be able to put it down ...

Gripping from the first to last page.
Now I'm a self-confessed fan of Adele Parks so seeing her on Sara Cox's Sunday morning breakfast show talking about Lies, Lies, Lies immediately made me click onto Audible and download what I can only describe as a 'trip down the road with two old friends'.
Daisy & Simon could be your next-door neighbours, on the outside you see nothing but a functioning friendly family yet Daisy is living a nightmare if you've ever had an alcoholic in your life then listening to the pain and abuse Daisy receives on a daily basis will strike a chord.
Harsh, brutal, intriguing, enthralling and surely 2019 Best Book of the Year.
