About this listen
Afghanistan hadn’t quite killed me. Karen Sinclair just might.
You don’t find many too-pretty rich boys in the New Zealand Defense Force. Turns out there’s a reason for that. Fortunately, you can find your true self in the oddest places. Of course, you can lose yourself in those places, too - at least some pieces of you.
Since I was back home with a new leg, some facial alterations, and time on my hands, I might as well help out my sister. Showing a potential buyer around some of New Zealand’s quirkier ecotourism sites, having a few adrenaline-fueled adventures? Fine. It wasn’t like I’d never been camping, unlike the walking tornado that was Miss Karen Sinclair. Unfortunately, Karen had never heard of the phrase “let me get that”, let alone “we don’t have time”. She’d definitely never heard “there’s no more room in the car”.
And then there was the sexual frustration.

Awesome
I have listened to more than 15 books by this author but this one is my ultimate favourite - I have listened to it three times within a year and will certainly do so again. I laughed out loud (ignoring stares lol) and cried, this book has it all. From start to finish it grabs your attention and the story is just fantastic. The narrators bring it all together, they are awesome! Thank you so much Rosalind, Emma and John, this book wins gold!!

Another winner from Rosalind James!
I enjoyed hearing Karen's story (first seen in the Not quite a billionaire series). Jax is an awesome protagonist and the male narrator did a great job. Emma Wilder was awesome as always. I also loved meeting Hemi and Hope again. Koro makes another appearance and is as wise and as soulful as ever.

Wonderful!
Took a little while to get used to two narrators, but it was terrific! Loved the new characters and meeting up with old favourites.

Really great fun Listen!
Emma Wilder hasn’t disappointed in bringing Rosalind’s book to life. While this book uses characters from the not quite a billionaire series it never feels stuck in Hemi and Hopes story and can be listened to as standalone book . It explores new starts and self worth as Karen is forced to start a fresh on her thirtieth birthday with Jax’s (a kiwi bad boy with a heart of gold) help she is able to slowly rediscover her worth and purpose. A story which is fun to listen to . Really worth the listen . Highly recommend it !
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated for my review, and I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed here is my own.

A "must read" romance
Reading this book caused some pretty embarrassing moments at I found myself laughing out loud, and also crying, on my daily train commute. I knew this book would be the usual excellent read from Rosalind James, but it was so much more – Deeply emotional and deeply moving, with a real insight into coping with the aftermath of serious injury. Jaz was recovering from losing a leg in an army incident and the reader got a real feel for the realities and hardships of both the physical and emotional adjustment required. Karen had just lost both her career and her long term relationship, and was also struggling to figure out what she did next. It takes a brave writer to feature lead characters who are both unemployed, and both at such insecure and uncertain stages in their lives.
This book also manages to be very funny. The depiction of children is perfect (A toddler announcing on the phone that he has “done a poo” and needs someone to wipe his bum), and does not shy away from the unpleasant realities of sickness. I have not read many romances where the hero gets vomited on by his potential love interest, nor have I read many where the hero likens his love interest to a Golden Retriever. You just have to read it to see why this makes so much sense!
Special mention has to go to the dual narration which was about the best I have ever heard and really does bring this story alive.
Rosalind James is easily one of my favourite writers. She has veered into BDSM territory lately which I have not enjoyed, but this book is probably one of her best and it’s really good to see an experienced author taking a risk. The chapter where Jaz worried about his first sexual performance with one leg, and his subsequent emotional breakdown, was beautifully moving and a fabulous piece of writing from Ms James. The ending was exceptional, and did not gloss over the very real difficulties that can occur when two people face the fact that for them to stay together, one of them will have to sacrificing their career.
