Summary

Gotrek and Felix: unsung heroes of the Empire, or nothing more than common thieves and murderers? The truth perhaps lies somewhere in between and depends entirely upon whom you ask....

Once companions on the greatest of adventures, Gotrek and Felix have long since gone their separate ways. Felix, married and settled, secretly craves the excitement of his youth. And when the opportunity arises, Felix embarks upon what might be his final journey. As the chaos of the End Times engulfs Kislev, Gotrek and Felix are reunited, battling the hordes of the Troll King alongside Ulrika, Snorri and Max. But when long-hidden secrets are revealed, these old friends will be torn apart, and not all of them will leave Kislev alive....

Confused writing

Jonathan Keeble provides an excellent performance as always, and tries hard to carry this story but sadly its not enough.

At one point, Felix is introspective and thinks to himself that he missed the camaraderie, I laughed then, as I still miss it. It doesn't exist in this book. Guymer has done a lot of prep work and research, he tries to tie in every facet of every character from the past series but missing the the trees for the forest he utterly failed to understand the mood and atmosphere of the Gotrek & Felix series. The humour is gone, the reluctant heroism is gone, the sense of adventure is gone. Characters are warped, instead of being gruff but amenable Gotrek here is just an asshole, instead of being reluctant but noble Felix is a self absorbed wretch. Kat is reduced to a plot device. Ulrika's true mission was to risk doom and damnation to tell someone to hurry up. Its absurd.

The only character that was done well was Snorri, but even then his storyline was confused with flashbacks coming out of nowhere, to show his state of mind, I know, but still confusing especially because there is no time to breath in this story. It rushes ahead from one battle to the next, constantly. Its exhausting.

The main thing that David Guymer failed to understand and subsequently confused himself into believing is that because the setting is grim dark then the story had to be as well. Again, no. I honestly don't understand how he could have clearly done so much research on these characters and completely missed the tone.

I don't recommend this book. Skavenslayer and Daemonslayer have just been released as audiobooks on Audible. They're far, far better. I recommend those instead.

Slow start but an emotional ending

The first third of this book was slow for me but once the story unfolds and the gang get back together, the book gets into it's stride. The ending, I did not expect that ending! As for the performance, Jonathan Keeble does Stirling work on all the parts played, he is Gotrek 👍

Jonathan Keeble is a great narrator

Keeble is a fantastic Narrator that I've listened a lot for Gotrek & Felix books. Always very dramatic, especially the battles which is what you want ! This book is sadder than most but I did enjoy it

Boring

Didn't finish it as the book just got dull (made it about 80% of the way thriugh). It's mostly about felix, gotrek barely makes an appearance. Don't waste your time.

The saddest book of the series

A mandatory read for people who think the best books of the series are Demonslayer and/or Dragonslayer

Good book

Very good as are all the others only issue is there is a few errors in recording, assuming they’re from the editing of the recording

Solid prequel for the new Gotrek series

While not the original, better series Kinslayer and the soon to be rereleased Slayer are fine companions to begin making more sense of the Realmslayer arc beginning in Age of Sigmar. This is the first part in the story of both how the Old World was consumed and how Gotrek is even alive many millenia later. Much more high fantasy than the usual Gotrek and Felix sword and sorcery these are pretty quickly paced and larger in scope than most of the series so much of the charm just isnt there. As an ending to the series they were a mixed bag, as a prequel to current times in Age of Sigmar theyre just about perfect because they may be rediculous but not as confusing as AoS can get.

Very much hoping there is the original series coming to audio as theyre some of the best examples of fantasy writing under the entire Warhammer brand and if theyre gonna give Gotreks background we at least need the Grey Seers as well seeing as hes somehow still around in "current" times.

I had no idea what was going on but I loved it.

i am a 40k and HH fan. Never really got into Warhammer Fantasy or Age of Sigmar. But I know these two guys from seeing their art and stories. So when I saw the Kinslayer and Slayer books I thoguht they were a kind of rebooting the characters for AOS. Turns out I was totally wrong and most of the characters are from previous stories and tons of references to older stories so I barely had any idea of what was going on the whole time...but it was still a fun listen. It is a great story and i am sure if you're a fan you'll love it. Jonathan Keeble is awesome. That guy could read the phonebook and I'd find it enthralling.

Praaaaaaag

I love Jonathan Keeble, but the way he says Praag is hilarious. Overall the fantastic narration I've come to expect from him, and the story wasn't too bad. Definitely not the worst Gotrek and Felix adventure.

Yuck.

The beginning of the end for a great series that was clearly hastily wrapped up in favor of AoS stuff. I'm not one to not welcome change but this whole thing the "Twist" of the book, the bitterness of all of it is downright sad. The writing is good, and props to david for what was written and how it was done. Its just a limp hollow send off this way for a few characters. It doesn't make sense to me, and i wish it could have ended differently.

Another great Felix and Gotrek tale

Keeble's performance is great. Only parts I didn't care for were for some of the flashbacks. No spoilers, the ending is worth it.

perfect performance but issues in the recording.

loved the story but, there seems to be electric static in the second chapter somewhere like something was edited out improperly.
