About this listen

The fourth novel of the galaxy-spanning Sun Eater series merges the best of space opera and epic fantasy, as Hadrian Marlowe continues down a path that can only end in fire.

Hadrian Marlowe is trapped. For nearly a century, he has been a guest of the Emperor, forced into the role of advisor, a prisoner of his own legend. But the war is changing. Mankind is losing.

The Cielcin are spilling into human space from the fringes, picking their targets with cunning precision. The Great Prince Syriani Dorayaica is uniting their clans, forging them into an army and threat the likes of which mankind has never seen. And the Empire stands alone.

Now the Emperor has no choice but to give Hadrian Marlowe—once his favorite knight—one more impossible task: journey across the galaxy to the Lothrian Commonwealth and convince them to join the war. But not all is as it seems, and Hadrian's journey will take him far beyond the Empire, beyond the Commonwealth, impossibly deep behind enemy lines.

Outstanding!

This series just gets better. Like all stories I become invested in a story and hadrians is one that keeps on giving.
Saying that, this book is depressing…in a good way. Growth

bad, bland narrator

The book isn't as good as Demon in White but it's still great. Unfortunately the narrator isn't anywhere near as competent as the previous performances. His voice is bland, intense scenes don't land because of his failure to emote. Additionally it's jarring to hear his mispronunciation of simple words like "lichen" "forecastle" or "gunwale".

Rollercoaster ride.

Unseen twists and turns. What a whirlwind of events. Looking forward to the next book.

Miserable, I loved it

We knew it was coming, something had to change. I wasn’t expecting something this big.

brutal!

well that was absolutely brutal and brilliant!
great world and character building as always, and a new narrator that threw me off a bit at first but done a great job and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to him.

Powerful in ways few books are

A hard book to read with characters you have grown to love but it is a modern masterpiece. This book propels the series to the upper echelons of series I have had the pleasure to read.

The change i nnaturtakes some time to get used to.

At first, I found it challenging to adapt to the shift in the narrator's voice, but as I continued listening, I began to appreciate his performance more and more. The story is beautifully crafted, with rich imagery and emotional depth that captivates me. I'm currently halfway through, and I’m thoroughly immersed in the narrative. It truly is a remarkable and profound tale that resonates deeply within me.

Awful performance

Why oh why did the narrator thing it wise to make the main villain, the supposed nemesis of all mankind, sound like a petulant child??? it just ruined the entire thing for me.

A Merry-go-round

while I enjoyed the first 3 books this fourth entry is like a broken record, The performance is splendid but story beats and even descriptions of similar events are repeated.

The main character has little progression. instead the entire book is moments of overpowered plot armour into a macguffin reason why he suddenly cannot prevail that eases into a dormant phase.

Even the big bad of the book endlessly repeats the same actions and words until I hated how lazy and loose everything felt.
