About this listen
The Quantum Bomb of 2015 changed everything. The fabric that kept the universe's different dimensions apart was torn and now, six years later, the people of earth exist in uneasy company with the inhabitants of, amongst others, the elfin, elemental, and demonic realms. Magic is real and can be even more dangerous than technology.
Elves are exotic, erotic, dangerous, and really bored with the constant Lord of the Rings references. Elementals are a law unto themselves and demons are best left well to themselves.
Special agent Lila Black used to be pretty, but now she's not so sure. Her body is more than half restless carbon and metal alloy machinery, a machine she's barely in control of. It goes into combat mode, enough weapons for a small army springing from within itself, at the merest provocation.
As for her heart, well, ever since being drawn into a game by the elfin rockstar Zal (lead singer of the No Shows), who she's been assigned to protect, she's not even sure she can trust that any more either.

Great audio version of the book!
I have read this book several times, I love the story and the complexity of Lila and the world building warrants rereading every time a new book in the series comes out. So this time I decided to try the audiobook and I was not disappointed - very nicely done!

Great story , But……
I absolutely love this story, its got all the joy of harry potter with a twist of robocop thrown in.
However . If you can find the American narrated version by Mel..(something) is far better by audio frontiers . It should never have been read British for something that takes place in Americans mainly .
The sultry and buttery voice of sorcha comes s across as a imitation of Big Momma from Big Mommas house (movie )
Just because a demon has midnight black skin does not mean they should be read and sound as a black African accent . It does not fit the narrative and comes across as racist if audible read this i would like a replacement with the better version
In the Americans read Lilah comes across as human and flawed with emotions struggles and genuine personality, this is very flat , and poor choice of imagined accents in The wrong place

amazing world building but...
Loved the world building and magic systems
But the actual characters seem to lack personality

Fun. Good fun.
Great narration. Inventive story. Light hearted but with plenty of depth under the surface to give pause for thought.

Un-Original
The only thing this book had going for it was the lead character was a Cyborg. Everything else has been done before but a lot better even the "new earth".
I would recommend that that you try the Rachel Morgan books before trying these as I did not find any supporting Characters likeable and the villain was not developed well enough to become hateable.
In fact she could have been a lot more nasty.
This book did not make want to get any more in the series and I like series books.

Good idea but meh!
I thought the narrator sounded too much like a newsreader on the BBC!
Great idea for a story but I kept loosing track of where I was with it, it wasnt as easy to stop and start again as other books have been. I persevered with the narrator and the story all the way to the end and I began to feel something for the characters but I'll leave this series for now, not sharp enough for me want to jump into book 2
