Summary

Sometimes before you can face your enemies, you need to confront yourself.

Time is running out for Shining Smith and her crew to gather the weapons they need to rescue one of their own. But will they even make it to the ultimate battle? First, they’ll need to hit the road to Charleston - a hell ride full of bandits, sex slavers, corrupt lawmen, and criminal bike gangs looking to move in on Shining’s territory.

Shining’s human allies will do anything to protect her - because they must. But will victory be worth it if she must compel more and more people to do her bidding? And will her feline warriors, the junkyard cats, remain loyal and risk their lives? Or are they just in it for the kibble?

Addictive!

Another fantastic listen in this addictive series. I couldn't put it down and was hooked from the start, I just want to know when book 3 comes to audible?!

Action packed from start to finish

Another hair raising entry in the Junkyard Cats saga (is it a saga after only 2 installments?) from Faith Hunter, narrated by Khristine Hvam! Action packed from start to finish, the Shining Smith and her junkyard cats leave their scrapyard on what should be a low-key supply run, gearing up for the greater battle to come, but when has Shining's life ever been routine? New enemies, new allies, new toys, and new cats all come together in this excellently paced and deliciously detailed second installment in Shining's story. Can't wait until the next one drops!

Love this series

it's a shame that some reviewers punish the author for their technical difficulties. These books are fast paced and the story unfolds as you read - it's unpredictable which I like. It doesn't follow the traditional format. I love the fresh concept and the world building. Great series.

Excellent

Because this is part of the audible plus catalogue it is free. I would not have bought this book because I spend my credits on books at least 10 hours in duration but I have enjoyed it immensely and will certainly follow further books in the series. The characters are engaging and grow as the story progresses. The world the story is held in is detailed and compelling and the narrator is excellent. This and junkyard cats are the best books ive listened to this yeat

I want more

The only complaint I have about this book is that it is short! in full FH style- action, intrigue, character development and amazing cats!! Love it!

can't wait for book 3.

I love the way how the cats are battle cats that communicate but are still cats, not talking.

really enjoy the narrator too.

Shining strikes again!

Fabulous story, but much too short! We're brought back into the post apocalyptic world with a bang, & we've missed it. Shining's links to the junkyard cats and to her thralls continues to develop, as does the number of characters in the story. I'm very much looking forward to the next installment.

Good follow on

Lots of action in this book and some great characters. There’s a real Mad Max moment early on but it moves into new territory after that. I particularly like the different female characters (even if Jolene is an AI).

Good story but

I enjoy Faith Hunter books, But I wish she would not repeating peoples so-called ranks “Chief enforcer for the what ever” I may forget what I did this morning, but I could remember who a character is without being reminded of his rank every 2nd paragraph. When Khristine Hvam ( who is a great narrator) repeatedly says the same list of rankings. I feel like giving up on the books. If it is to increase the word count it’s bad idea and is terrible in a short story. I am not happy with it in the longer books! Please stop . your readers are not idiots, maybe some of us because we keep coming back. The great ideas are defused by this practice.
