Summary
'Do you know what a Judas Horse is? When the wild mustangs are running free, you corral one and train it. When he's ready, you release him and he'll bring his team back into the corral - like Judas betraying them....'
Violent burglars have been terrorising residents across the English countryside. But when a mutilated body is discovered in a Cotswolds house, it becomes clear that this is no ordinary group of opportunist thieves.
As Detective Jack Warr investigates, he discovers locals with dark secrets, unearths hidden crimes - and hits countless dead ends. With few leads and the violent attacks escalating, he will have to act as audaciously as the criminals if he hopes to stop them.
When Warr meets Charlotte Miles, a terrified woman with links to the group, he must use her to lure the unsuspecting killers into one last job and into his trap. But with the law already stretched to breaking point, any failure will be on Warr's head - and any more blood spilled, on his hands....

not the best by a long stretch
well I thought a La plante book was a slam dunk but this is her worst I've read to date. Slow boring build up with a dull flat liner voice narrator. Some of the policemen sounded like the royal family. ok, I'm a Northener so maybe I'm common but surely police down south aren't that bloody posh!
sure I could narrate much better.

Don't
This has to be the worst narrated book I've had the misfortune to come across on audible.
Shocking naration/ slow dull boring laboured plot. Poor characters. Everything is just so bad.
Please don't waste your time or money.

Boring
I found this book so boring that I didn’t bother to finish it. Can’t believe it’s written by Lynda la Plante.

Sentimentality and soppiness
Was this book really written by Lynda La Plante???? What happened? Poor storyline and rather cliché characters developed in totally predictable manner. The multiple references the poor dead dog seem meant to remind us, listeners/readers, that this is a crime novel and that we are dealing with ruthless criminals lest we forget.... instead the whole book is very forgettable. Disappointing!

Couldn’t finish this dreadfully boring book! Waiting through the hours for something to happen, gave up.

Brilliant Jack Ward sequal
Found this a great listen, really got to know the lead character, Jack Warr, and his family. Enjoyed the journey with him as he developed his relationships with colleagues, witnesses, victims, informants and the criminals. Really well read and a thoroughly enjoyable listen from start to finish. Hope there is more from Jack Warr.!

Too short!
This was over much too soon.
I'm a newbie when it comes to Lynda La Plante and I'm only 5 books in but I can see why I had the impression that she is like royalty amongst authors.
The characters and plots are so well written that you become totally immersed.
Alex Hassell is a superb narrator, really giving the books life.
