Summary

It began with Eragon.... It ends with Inheritance.

Not so very long ago, Eragon-Shadeslayer, Dragon Rider, was nothing more than a poor farm boy, and his dragon, Saphira, only a blue stone in the forest. Now the fate of an entire civilization rests on their shoulders. Long months of training and battle have brought victories and hope, but they have also brought heartbreaking loss. And still, the real battle lies ahead: they must confront Galbatorix. When they do, they will have to be strong enough to defeat him. And if they cannot, no one can. There will be no second chances.

The Rider and his dragon have come further than anyone dared to hope. But can they topple the evil king and restore justice to Alagaësia? And if so, at what cost?

A good ending to a decent series

After the 3rd book in this series, I approached this with some reluctance. At 30 hours it is a fairly hefty listen and given the trudge through Brisingr, I thought that I may not be able to stick it out.

I was pleasantly surprised. the book was faster paced, more akin to the 2nd book and had a great deal more plot to keep the book marching along.

Eragon is less annoying in this book - perhaps the purpose of his irritating character is to show the growth of the character into a "man"

The real shortfall in this book is Galbatorix. For 4 books, we have heard about his evil nature etc etc yet he lacks the real menace of a villain. He is like Arnold Shwarzenegger as a villain in the Batman and Robin movie when what you really want is a Tom Hiddlestone0 in the Avengers movie

The book ended well. Like Lord of the Rings, it had a long outroduction (new word) and I like this in a book. I like to see what happens to everyone

A satisfying ending to a good series marred only by a poor 3rd book and a less than menacing "tyrranical" villain

Good story with lots of interesting characters

Would you consider the audio edition of Inheritance: The Inheritance Cycle, Book 4 - Part 1 to be better than the print version?

I haven't read the printed version but if a good narrator books can come to life in audio version

Who was your favorite character and why?

Saphirah like the witty humour and one liners

Which character – as performed by Gerrard Doyle – was your favourite?

As above

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

A bit of both

Closure!

I'm finishing this series more than 10 years after I started it as a youngling, and I'm still enchanted. I'm very glad the author made the choices he made, I'd have been disappointed with any other ending. I enjoy the fact that there's much ahead for the characters, but it's left to the reader to imagine. A few repetitions, and still the dragon voices bothered me, but other than that, it was a fabulous moment. The redemption and evolution archs of all the characters are a key point in the story. I'll be sad to leave this realm, and will probably gladly return soon.

Good ending to the series.

I loved listening to the his book and it was just the right length. All that I don't like about is the fact that it doesn't show what happens when eragon leaves alegaisia.

extraordinarily well narrated entry-level fantasy

here, Doyle performs exceptionally and consistently - worth a listen for nostalgia. From book one to four characters are consistent and his portrayals are lively. can't say the same for the fork, the witch and the worm, though.
