Summary

We hoped, desperately, that they came in peace.

We were wrong.

Thirty years after the Second Swarm War devastated Earth and its colonies, a powerful, mysterious alien ship has invaded our space. Entire planets are ravaged, whole moons shattered. Any starship sent against it never came home.

But Admiral Proctor, a war hero from our last brush with annihilation, is called out of retirement to take the reins of humanity's newest starship. The ISS Independence and her crew, with Admiral Proctor at the helm, will stand as Earth's last defense. Somehow, against all odds, they will save us, even when our enemy is not just an unstoppable alien ship, but a ghost from humanity's past bent on its utter destruction.

And if they fail, we fall.

For good.

New series to follow?

I had this on pre order and when I got to listen found it very interesting.

Much later on in the life of Proctor, which I found to be cool. After all there would have been a hopefully good space of peace etc. But, it seems not everything went as well as we'd hoped for humanity after Granger saved us. There's been a lot of controversy still. And when Proctor is asked back to Captain a new ship because of a new threat, it soon becomes clear that there's more afoot and has been for many years.

There's a fair bit of will she won't she at first, and learning her nephew's involvement with a planets annihilation and the hows and why is what drives her to do the best she can.

Good to see some gamiliar faces in here too, and his son, who is mostly like his dad, and does exaclty what his dad does disobey orders.

Lots of exciting battles fought, loved the grangerites, haha I guess a hero really can be idolised that much, but somehow they were right and there was a message for her.

Greg, as usual does a great job with the narration. He puts so much effort into each character, and he really makes the older 'proctor' such a gem to follow into space. We are really routing for her in this story, and for those under her command. Some don't make it, but what war can be fought without losses. Good emotional story... kudos to both writer and narrator :)

As an aside, I did think there were a couple of funny moments, where I laughed at the writing choices, like tranny-jump... but the science still behind the new tech, the aliens and the war is good. Enjoyed it a lot, and will look out for more.

Pokes to see if there are any written... Oh yes, lots in Nick Webb's Kindle Worlds... they're great BTW shame Greg isn't narrating all those as well :)

Brilliant!

I love these books. The Legacy Fleet started me off and now that has finished, the story continues with the Legacy Ship Trilogy.

Greg Tremblay is perfect for the narration of this series and I hope the narrator is not changed, as has happened with other books.

I look forward, impatiently, for the following two books.

Space drama very little tech

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Most of this book is about the conflict that occurs between humans. Space is only the backdrop.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

The last chapter of the book actually started to get interesting ... started.

What about Greg Tremblay’s performance did you like?

Easy to listen to, good vocal range for different characters, nice reading speed.

Did Independence inspire you to do anything?

Write this review to remind me not to buy book 2.

Great new sfi opera trilogy. Must read.

Nick Webb has taken the time to build an exciting and dramatic core story that allows for both human/human and human/alien intertwined plots.
Thanks Nick for a great new beginning.

Great Si-Fi, well written!

The author spins a fine Si-Fi story and in the end you'll want to jump right into the next book in the series. If you love Si-Fi you'll love this book! Well written and great narration!

The best space battles I've read...

Shelby Proctor is BACK, and she's got a tangled mess of Aliens, Politics, BIG Business, and a Crazy new religion to sort out... At the same time that she's saving humanity... Again!
Once again Nick Webb delivers a rip-roaring good tale!

Every goodbye is not gone

Hero soon become legends and the people that know them have the real story. But great moments need a hero, may the legends continue.

Must read... narrator excellent!

Very good, deep weaved story, interesting characters, excellent writing. Narrator is superb! He does a fantastic job. He will be one of my favorites from now on. Will definitely read the next books and look for more from this author.

Disappointed

Hard to stay interested with slow writing and irritating voice performance. If the writer uses SEALS and Ranges as background, he needs to do some better background study.

Looks like Nick Webb laid dud.

This book is very disjointed and the plot is weak. Not as good as other books.

loving this series

I'm honestly surprised more people don't know about this book series. I've been extremely happy with the story progression and character development.
