In the UK, someone is reported missing every 90 seconds.
Just gone. Vanished. In the blink of an eye.
DCS Kat Frank knows all about loss. A widowed single mother, Kat is a cop who trusts her instincts. Picked to lead a pilot programme that has her paired with AIDE (Artificially Intelligent Detective Entity) Lock, Kat's instincts come up against Lock's logic. But when the two missing person's cold cases they are reviewing suddenly become active, Lock is the only one who can help Kat when the case gets personal.
AI versus human experience.
Logic versus instinct.
With lives on the line can the pair work together before someone else becomes another statistic?
In the Blink of an Eye is a dazzling debut from an exciting new voice and asks us what we think it means to be human.

A bit different but in a good way
A different concept of a book and good narrator to tell the story. Not too taxing and both funny and tragic in parts. Worth a try.

Great story, too much swearing
Well written and intriguing. Sadly the lead character swears a lot, otherwise I’d recommend widely

New twist detective story
Great idea well written and excellently performed.
The idea of an intuitive experienced detective working alongside an AI prototype sounded like an interesting storyline and it did not disappoint.
I found it hard to visualise the idea of a DCI walking down the street accompanied by (and talking to) a hologram, difficult to visualise but go with the flow -it works!
The plot became a little predictable towards the end which is why I could not give the story a five star rating but the characters all have potential should the author decide to develop them into a series of books.
Thank you to BBC “Between the Covers” without whom I may have missed this one.

Fantastic!
This was a brilliant read. Not my usual genre, but I chose it following it being reviewed in ‘Between the Covers’ presented by Sarah Cox.
Narration was ok, a little stiff in parts, but not terrible.
It’s crime and a little sci fi too. Keeps you reading/listening. I usually only listen whilst commuting, but I could turn it off. Found myself finishing it in just a couple of days.
Apparently there’s a book 2, and 3 being written & I can’t wait for them to come out.

The best book I have read for a long time!! Could not put it down!!
This is a marvellous book - well written and one you can relate to. Dark in some places - but humour and emotion. You really get to know Kat and really care about her. I could not put this down. Brilliant book - I would highly recommend.

really good book that was gripping and suspenseful throughout. at some point it was obvious what was going to happen but it was still great. I struggled to put it down until I finished it.
