Fun is the one thing Elsie Webb takes seriously. Though she'd be having a lot more of it if Haelstrom Media paid her enough to actually get out of debt. She's determined to hold out on contract negotiations for her kids' television show Fangley Heights until she gets what she deserves. There's only one problem, the head of the network just died and left her future more uncertain than ever. Forty-eight hours and one funeral—that's all Jones Haelstrom has to get through before she can return to her life in LA that's as ordered and sparse as an IKEA showroom.

Free-spirited and easygoing Taylor Vandenberg left her hometown of Faircombe, Tennessee, as soon as she could, and in the twenty-five years since, she has rarely looked back. She wouldn't change anything about how her life has turned out—having traveled to nearly every country, never staying anywhere long enough to feel stifled. Story
Maisie Sullivan is a hard-working marketing assistant from Milwaukee who wants nothing more than to earn a promotion and finally finish her college degree. But when she’s swept off her feet by a charming cowgirl while on a business trip to Las Vegas, she decides there’s no harm in having a little fun.
Summary
Rebecca Keane has it all figured out. With a successful career as an Army surgeon and a fresh promotion to lieutenant colonel, she loves her life leading a surgical team. Even if that life means she’s spent years hiding her sexuality and ignoring her desires under the Army’s "don’t ask, don’t tell" policy. Then Captain Sabine Fleischer’s arrival sets off an attraction that cracks Rebecca’s carefully cultivated armor and brings about fresh complications.
As Sabine’s direct commanding officer, Rebecca knows she cannot act on her attraction, but that knowledge does nothing to squash her desires. Unable to keep her thoughts about the alluring other woman under control, Rebecca resigns herself to years of censoring her thoughts and feelings until Sabine’s time in the Army is done. She’s spent decades suppressing parts of herself for her job, so what’s a few more years?
But as Rebecca and Sabine work closely together on Army bases in Afghanistan and the States, the undeniable sparks between them begin to ignite. And despite Rebecca’s constant self-censure, her denials and her knowledge of every obstacle standing between them, her resolve crumbles with each passing day. But when the consequences of your love run deeper than just breaking one of the unbreakable rules of the military, you risk losing more than just your heart.
If I Don’t Ask is the must-hear story telling Rebecca’s side of E. J. Noyes’ best-selling Ask, Tell.

Rebecca Keane Rocks
Rebecca Keane is as deep and thoughtful as I thought she would be. In fact she’s more, so much more.
I’ve been waiting for this book without even knowing it. It’s technically the 4th book in the Ask, Tell series but EJ Noyes has suggested it be read as book 2 and it definitely should. This book starts a while before the 1st book. It means we get to see Rebecca and Sabine meet. We see how Rebecca felt from the start, and how Sabine acted during her 1st deployment. We get to live through that 1st surgery and 1st flag football game. We get to know what Rebecca thought of all the things Sabine beat herself up over. I love how EJ Noyes gave us more of the scenes I loved most. I loved how those scenes felt brand new because Rebecca is a deep thinker unlike Sabine the over thinker. I couldn’t get enough of Rebecca’s thoughts. How she saw Sabine and Mitch, Sabine and Amy, How the home leave happened. What she was thinking at the scrub sink, during flag football. I l wanted it all, until it came to the incident. God I had to pause it. It suddenly hit me how deeply I was going to feel it all, and my goodness I felt it. EJ Noyes did the most fantastic job of giving us Rebecca’s Turmoil. The surgery scene had me holding my breath, in the aftermath I cried and sniffled. I just wanted to hug her. This book is absolutely brilliant. Yes we know the story, but actually we don’t, just the timeline. Because the events felt by Rebecca are a completely different experience even though they’re the same. So read ‘Ask, Tell’ to find out how Sabine, the over thinker, thinks, and how she thinks Rebecca, the deep thinker thinks. Then Read ‘If I Don’t Ask’ to actually find out how Rebecca, the deep thinker thinks. And how She thinks Sabine, the over thinker, thinks. There’s a lot of thoughts 😂😂. I love that even though these books start in different places in time, they both end in the same spot 😍😍 (with a tiny bit extra)
Abby Craden does the most fantastic job at bringing Rebecca Keane to life. For me this is Abby’s best work. Perfect

alternative to book one from rebeccas' point of view. YES it's worth buying, I actually got really into the book, yes I knew the story, but then I didn't, fascinating how the same two people react, and I prefer rebeccas' character.

Dream come true
I always think I wish I knew what Rebecca was thinking every time I listen to Ask Tell (which is many times). I'm so flipping happy EJ Noyes took this book out. You get to hear some of the same situations but from Rebecca's point of view so although it's repeating the situations it's totally different, and then you also get a whole other storyline with knowing their story from the very beginning and also Rebecca's life away from the Army. I honestly cannot express how happy I was listening to this book. Thank you EJ Noyes

Everything we could have asked for and more!
I. LOVED. THIS. AUDIOBOOK.
It will be a surprise to absolutely no one that this book is terrific like its predecessors. As I was listening to this story - which takes place at virtually the same time as Ask, Tell but from LTC Rebecca Keane's Point of View - I kept thinking how incredibly grateful I am that EJ Noyes felt the need to revisit these characters. That readers needed to know what Rebecca was thinking and feeling during this time, when we'd only seen it from Sabine Fleischer's point of view. And it doesn't feel like a retread at all but new, fresh material.
It's amazing how much has changed since the Don't Ask, Don't Tell policy was revoked, but at the same time, I can't help but feel nervous that we may be moving into an era where it might happen all over again. And while I now feel the need to re-listen to Ask Me Again (the second in the series) it's such an incredibly painful book to experience because Noyes captures Sabine's struggle in such a deep way. She has a gift for that. Like her incredible novel Alone, these are books that leave a reader so raw that you almost have to be in the right frame of mind to go there.
Abby Craden proves time and time again that even the best books can be improved upon with the right narrator. One of her greatest talents is that she accesses, then conveys emotions so beautifully that the listener feels every single thing. From the sensual to the tormented, her work on this is just exquisite. I was completely enthralled down to the last seconds of the book. And the consummation scene? Oh my god. Oh. My. God. Just amazing.

Masterful
Who else fell in love with Rebecca's voice on Ask, Tell? Talk about talent. The minute I saw this book was written with Rebecca's point of view, I had to get it. It's awesome to see how Sabine and Rebecca tell their own side of their love story and how each one evolved. And Abby Craden, my god. She is by far the best narrator and honestly, she makes every book better. Rebecca's voice is my favorite thus far. Abby is brilliant.

Having read the series and knowing to expect certain events, I was surprised when the tears fell anew when it happened. Hearing the story told through Beck’s experience truly gave a 360 to the series. E.J. Noyes masterfully weaves the story with such description and emotion. Paired with narration by Abbey Craden this is a must listen.

The narration was overacted. I realized that Abby is often chosen to narrate lesbian romances. I just think would be better with less quaver and angst in the delivery of narration. Glad Don’t Ask Don’t Tell is over now in the military!
