Summary
From the international number one best-selling author of the DCI Ryan mysteries.
Hysteria is the second instalment in Ross' brand-new Dr Alex Gregory series, narrated by actor Hugh Dancy.
Recently returned from his last case in Ireland, elite forensic psychologist and criminal profiler Dr Alexander Gregory receives a call from the French police that he can’t ignore. It’s Paris fashion week, and some of the world’s most beautiful women are turning up dead, their faces slashed in a series of frenzied attacks while the world’s press looks on.
Amidst the carnage, one victim has survived, but she’s too traumatised to talk. Without her help, the police are powerless to stop the killer before he strikes again - can Gregory unlock the secrets of her mind before it’s too late? Murder and mystery are peppered with dark humour in this fast-paced thriller set in a spectacular Parisian landscape.

Disappointing
These are books in a series, and yet there seems to be no correlation between them. Yes the main character has the same name, apart from that there seems little connection. This one is set in France with a narrator who seems determined to prove what a great french accent he has! I feel Ross is getting lazy, her other series became poor after a great start although that series took 1-11 books to do so first! This is yet another very short book 5+ hours, so not good value anyway. The characters need more development in every way.

A series going from strength to strength
I have enjoyed Dr Gregory’s second outing every bit as much as I enjoyed the first! A great story that resonates with today’s society, a bit of romance and a satisfying conclusion. This story is definitively finished, but Alex has more to share and I hope that a certain French lady can make a reappearance - after all, London has jazz clubs too! The only complaint I have is that the story ended too soon! I would have very much liked it if it had been a little longer, but I still very much enjoyed what we got

Good until the final 90 minuts
It was a five star listen for most of the novel with clearly defined characters and a good story that kept me listening. However, the explanation as who who had perpetrated one of the crimes is too contrived and clinically implausible. Pity as I'd enjoyed the first book featuring Alexander Gergory and thought it would be a series to follow.
The narrator is excellent

Good listening..
Great book! Alex Gregory was in Paris to give a speech when he was asked to help solve an attempted murder, and then a murder.
He did meet a girl that he got involved with, but his guilt is so strong he refused to let it go anywhere. And speaking of guilt, I’m getting tired of this guilt-trip he’s been on in the beginning of this new series. If this continues, I will definitely quit reading the Alex Gregory books. I’ve listened to all the DCI Ryan stories, all 14 of them, and never had to suffer through Ryan suffering through all kinds of guilt and I don’t want to do it in this series.
There was no romance or sex and no swearing.
As to the narration: Hugh Dancy is a good narrator, both his voices and his reading emotions.

Disappointed
The first few chapters of the book seem to be just filler and self-serving as the author went back-and-forth from French to English we’re very glad that he knows how to speak French but really didn’t do much to further the story it wasn’t till closer to the halfway mark that it became more about the murder victim and the procedures which saved the novel I think but disappointed in this book by Ross

As usual I found this book to be excellent, slowly getting used to the new Alex Gregory, as I am a staunch fan of DC Ryan. I am sure I will get to love him as well. The story was excellent and gives an insight into the minds of split personalities. Hope to read many more books, just please don't give up on DCI Ryan. The narration was excellent.

I love Louise Ross's books. But very disappointed in this one. I have never been to France nor do I know the language at all. So after 15 minutes of struggling I was going to give up. But I decided to give it a little more time. Sorry, I am going to return it as I cant get past trying to understand any of the references to geography or the french legal system. Ruined the book for me.

Alexander is an intriguing protagonist and I was very excited to read the continuation of his story from Imposter. The story is suspenseful and well-written. I did not expect the twist at all and I can’t wait for the next book!
Hugh Dancy is a fantastic narrator. Top notch narration, wonderful portrayal of each distinct character along with his mastery of different accents make this series a very enjoyable listen.

Somewhat Disappointing
This was a let down. I enjoyed the first book in this series and was looking forward to Gregory's next adventure. I found the second book to be rather 2-dimensional, it lacked depth - and not just because the plot focused on models. It seemed as if the writer was writing to fill a contract rather than a natural development of the main characters. I doubt I'll bother with the last book in this trilogy. The best thing about this story was that it was fairly short. Nice listening to the French dialogue, the reader did a good job with the accents. That's about it for this one.
