Summary

The Aspen Pack series from NYT best-selling Carrie Ann Ryan continues with a fated romance that was never supposed to happen.

Skye Jamenson-Anderson knows the legacy she must live up to. She’s the daughter of warriors and the granddaughter of the late alphas who sacrificed everything so their den could survive. Though she feels she doesn’t have a place in her pack, she does everything in her power to keep them and their allies alive—including saving the Aspen alpha.

As alpha of the Aspen Pack, Chase Leyne knows a thing or two about one’s legacy. He’s the son of a traitor and the most powerful wolf in his territory. He also knows without a doubt that Skye is not his mate. When the two decide to lean on another in every way possible, they both go in knowing nothing forever can come out of it.

The enemy is stepping up their game and threatens the stability of the alliance forged in blood. With one bite, Chase and Skye’s world changes, and the one thing that is keeping them apart might be the only promise to save their packs and their future.

Wow

Carrie Ann Ryan how do you keep doing this to me? I couldn’t listen to this fast enough, the suspense that this book created was so very enjoyable.

The characters were well written and enjoyable, the way the book progressed had me doubting this so much but then the ending happened and oh it was so worth every second. I loved this so much

this book ripped my heart out, and I loved it

Because while we love the two main characters - they're not fated mates. They can have fun and scratch that itch and even love each other....but they're not fated mates. What did you do to me Carrie Ann Ryan? I was crying thinking they either ended a third or to find the ones for them...then they did and I'm sorry I misjudged you. Loved this book, the second in this series and I love seeing a glimpse of how the other generation has been and how the packs are now. Loved it

Steamy and captivating listen!

I recently had the opportunity to listen to the audiobook of Hunted in Darkness by Carrie Ann Ryan. This is the second book in the Aspen Pack series and I was so excited to dive in. I am loving this series so much. Narrated by Aiden Snow and Kit Swann, they bring Chase and Skye’s story to life. They each carry the weight of the world. Chase is an alpha trying to be what his pack needs after everything they have been through. He is strong and determined, even as he questions himself at every turn. Skye comes from a very important family and is trying to find her place. Together they shared some crazy chemistry and I loved how they stood for each other. There was so much going on around them and against them, but they were amazing together. It took them a bit to see what we could see all along. I loved their journey!

Happy listening!

Fated mates are not as easy to find anymore

When you dive into the paranormal world of shifters you are often met with the concept of fated mates. But when the world has been broken and shifted under these packs, the mating bonds may have changed again. This story of Chase and Skye as they work together to fight this new threat to their packs and work to bridge the gaps and build up their broken worlds they are also fighting some feelings too.
I loved how Carrie Ann Ryan bridges the gap of the shifter world with the need for touch and the human world with uncertainty of love, without the surety of a fated mate pull.
Getting to watch Chase as he stands his ground and finds his footing as an Alpha after so much has happened was something special on its own.
It is really no surprise to me that these two amazing narrators (Aiden Snow and Kit Swann) have brought this story to life in such a fantatic way. Their ability to bring these characters to life with full emotion was a wonderous experience.

Case and Skye

Haunted in Darkness is the second book of the Aspen Pack series. This book is about Alpha Chase Leyne and Skye Anderson. The Aspen pack is still trying to build itself up from the last alpha who had murdered most of the pack as well as fight off the new threat that has targeted them and all other wolves. Chase is trying his best to be what his pack needs but has many insecurities as it was his father who had done the damage they are trying to build from. Patricia “Skye” Anderson is the Jameson pack princess but not ranking and feels like her wolf is broken because it doesn’t act like how it is supposed to. They are both attracted to each other but know that they are not mates and can only have fun together until they find their mates.
This book has great relationships between packs, friends, and family. It has suspense, and plenty of action. The only thing that I didn’t really like was that it felt over done being reminded constantly that they were not mates.
I did listen to the Audible for this book and the voice actors did an amazing job bringing this world to life.
It can be read as a standalone, but I would recommend reading the first book to understand more of the vampire aspect of what’s going on.

The Aspen Pack continues...

While this book can be read as a standalone, it helps newbies like me to the fantasy/paranormal world to start from book 1. I think I'm starting to get the premise, but my knowledge of shifters, alphas, and all that is still at the mediocre level. What I did get is that Chase is the alpha of the Aspen Pack. Skye is part of the Redwood Pack. Chase and Skye aren't mated, but they have chemistry. Chase labels Skye as Gamma, but Skye doesn't agree. If I understood correctly, their packs are working together to get rid of the riff raff vampires who are wreaking havoc in the realm. Regardless, Chase and Skye get their HEA, but not before they have to defend their packs. While this type of book is not my usual cup of tea, the narrators Lee Samuels and Summer Morton, kept me hooked into the story. They did an amazing job of bringing the characters and story to life.

I received a complimentary copy of the audiobook at my request and voluntarily left this review.

Loved Chase and Skye

Chase is the Alpha of the Aspen pack. Skye is the granddaughter of the former Alpha of the Redwood pack. She is a dominant but doesn’t have a place in the hierarchy of her pack. She feels something is wrong with her wolf as she can meet the eyes of wolves more dominant then she is and she shouldn’t be able to do that. Chase feels he needs to prove himself since his father almost destroyed their pack. He was locked away from them and feels he should have been there for them. He always feels that when they look at him they see Blade. These two get thrown together a bit as Skye is training with some of the Aspen pack so she is in the den a lot. They both have an attraction to each other and decide to act on it till there true mated come along. These two are so well paired for each other. Loved the story and the narrators did a fantastic job with the two of them.

Hunted in Darkness

As the vampire threat against the wolves continues. Chase and Skye work together to try to win the fight. Both Skye and Chase have their own demons to deal with but find comfort in each other while they wait to find their true mates. Little do they know what is in store for them and how it will change their lives.
Their story is a good listen. It is full of ups and downs as the vampire threat becomes stronger. The two may start out with an innocent deal to enjoy each other’s company, needing that touch but soon it becomes more. As Chase and Skye find their way the pack must also deal with the threat and figure out just who will help and who will hinder. I enjoyed the love and the camaraderie in this story. There is strength and emotion throughout the book and as I finish this book, I am already eager to return to this world for the next one. Narrators Aiden Snow and Kit Swann do a good job of brining these characters and world to life, keeping the listener engaged in the story.

Chase and Skye

Hunted in Darkness by Carrie Ann Ryan is Chase and Skye's story and the second book in the Aspen Pack series.

Chase and Skye are from different packs but have always been around each other. Chase swore they were not each other's mates due to a prophecy, but everything snaps into place when their lives are in danger.

Chase and Skye have an undeniable pull to each other and their chemistry is off the charts. Chase's past is one of heartbreak and so much sorrow. Skye, although extremely strong, is so lost. The two of them together balance each other out.

The Aspen Pack books grab you from the beginning and keeps you intrigued right into the next book. Although these technically can be read as standalones, I highly recommend they be read in order to get the entire story. I can not wait for the next book in the series.

Aiden Snow and Kit Swann did a great job bringing the characters and story to life.

Skye and Chase

I hate to admit it but I have never read any of the Redwoods or Talons series so I am starting my journey with The Aspen Pack but as these packs are now interconnected I am learning more of their history all the time. I thoroughly enjoyed the first book in the Aspen Pack series and had no problem picking up the story and understanding what had gone before. Since then I have been eagerly awaiting the release of this second book, and let me tell you it was worth the wait. That said I would recommend reading or listening to this series in order.

The story is beautifully written and the author's wonderfully descriptive writing had me hooked on this action-packed, fast-paced shifter romance. It’s an emotional rollercoaster ride that quite frankly I didn't want to get off as I learned all about Chase the Alpha and Skye the woman/wolf he is drawn to.

Chase Leyne is the Alpha of the Aspen Pack, a pack which was devastated by his father who was the Alpha before him. A wicked, evil Alpha who tortured and murdered many of his pack and used dark magic to increase his power, he even imprisoned Chase and tortured him for years while the pack thought he was dead. Then when his father was finally defeated Chase became Alpha, but he doesn't believe himself worthy or that he has the love or loyalty of all his pack. He worries that when they see him they remember his father and so drives himself to be the Alpha they need, determined to protect his pack even if it costs him his life.

He is a protector who resents being protected especially by Skye Jameson-Anderson, she's a member of the Redwood pack, but because of an alliance between the packs is often on Aspen land, training and enhancing her fighting skills. Skye has always felt broken, she knows she's loved but she doesn’t know where she fits in her pack. She doubt's her abilities, yet she's strong. She has no problem looking a higher-ranking wolf in the eye something a lesser-ranking wolf shouldn't be able to do.

Chase is drawn to her but because of a prophecy believes she isn't his mate, he knows she's drawn to him too and hates it when she gets hurt trying to protect him! They may not be mates but the attraction between them is strong and they decide to have a friends-with-benefits relationship but knowing it can't be permanent. Then things get complicated as their emotions come into play, while Chase is sure she's not his mate he believes she is more than an ordinary wolf and is destined to be the mate of Alpha just not his.

It's a story about fated mates, vampires, dark magic, and an evil force lurking in the shadows. It's also a story of loyalty and love, heartbreak and sadness that brought tears to my eyes - in short, this story has everything. The characters some of whom will be familiar to you if you've read the first book or the Redwoods or Talons series are so well described, that they feel real.

The chemistry between Skye and Chase is palpable, but their story was just a part of a much bigger story all woven together beautifully, I'm hooked and need to know what is going to happen next. It’s a great addition to this series and I cannot wait for the next book, this is a pack like no other and I want to go back and visit again!

The narration of the book by Aiden Snow and Kit Swann was excellent, each brought life to the characters and delivered a faultless performance.
