Not what I expected.
Got to hour before the end and gave up…
Parts of the book were very interesting and informative. But these moments were few and far between. I also found it quite repetitive in terms of descriptions, labouring and going over the same points multiple times.
Often the ‘stories’ told came across as boastful and smug. This COULD have been emphasised by the way this was narrated… but I don’t believe that is completely the case.
If you want a good read/listen try any book by Sue Black instead

AMAZING
I really enjoyed this, there were some amazing informative parts, aswell as some laugh out loud parts. It was so great to get a look being the curtain at how real life murders are solved.

Boring
I didn’t like the narrator’s voices they just didn’t catch my attention I kept drifting away thinking of doing my washing etc.

Simply fascinating, I would recommend to anyone with an inquisitive mind!
I absolutely loved how easy to digest this book was. The information and the lives of Derek and Pauline was fascinating. While being crammed with information it was explained so well. This is a must for anyone who is a listener of true crime podcasts and watchers of documentaries.

Wanted to like it - but nah
My biggest peeve was the female narrator, by chapter three I was cringing every time she spoke but maybe that’s just a personal thing!
I feel the book didn’t live up to its claims and gave up. There was nothing in the book that was exciting or new. I really enjoyed Sue Black’s books and Richards Shepherds, so my advice, for what it’s worth, is listen to one of them instead.
I have never left a negative review before as I definitely couldn’t write a book but here it is!

The title of the book is misleading. It takes ages to really get going and is more about a couples stories from the lab!

Misleading title, too general and vague
This is more of a biopic of the scientists themselves than a revealing dive into the processes involved in their work. The narrators too felt unsuitable for the source material. There are moments where it really gets into the granular detail that delivers on the promises the book’s introduction makes (body mapping for example) and I found this to be a pretty unsatisfying listen.
