About this listen

Do you ever feel like you’re not good enough? Do you want more confidence? Then this audiobook is for you...and most of the human race.

From the Stone Age to the stars, and from flawed to just fine, John Crawford, the author of Anxiety Relief and Anger Management, takes us on a philosophical voyage of self-empowerment for the modern era, reminding us that knowing how to love yourself is not a luxury item. It’s an absolutely essential part of positive mental and emotional health in an increasingly challenging world.

Our ancestors were anxious to "fit in" to survive. Those instincts still drive us today, except that now we’re worried that we’re not measuring up to current expectations. For many, the message is “I’m not good enough”. It’s making us unhappy, and it's creating anxiety for the modern humans of planet Earth.

How to Love Your Inner Human in a World of Anxiety explores our shared humanity, examines our place in time and space, and invites us to reorient ourselves to the values of the human heart as we find our way back to our “Original Innocence” – the essence of our true unconditional value in the world as a natural part of life.

Through a process of healing, recovering our lost power, reclaiming our voices, and living with trust and genuine self-protection in place, we can silence the world’s judgments and become the authors of our own lives as well as our own best friends forever.

With 15 years of professional therapeutic practice in hand, John is known as an author who delivers his message with clarity, compassion, and sensitivity, but more importantly, his books do what they say on the tin. You probably already know that you should be kinder to yourself, but treating yourself to a night out or a new pair of shoes just isn’t going to cut it if the inner critic is still in charge the next day. We need a much deeper solution: one that acknowledges our imperfections and struggles, teaches us to forgive ourselves deeply, and protects our most vulnerable sweetness with fierce love.

This powerful, joyful, thought-provoking book will guide you well beyond the standard “be kind to yourself” self-help advice. It will provide you with unique heart-and-mind transforming tools and perspectives to redefine your relationship with yourself and the world - at the very deepest level.

It is a book for all humans, but those in emotional crisis will find it indispensable. When nobody else knows what you’re going through, there’s only one person who can truly be by your side, and that is yourself. It's the one relationship that we can't afford to leave to chance.

Who’s got your back? You do!

Nurturing, Kind, Funny, Insightful, Compassionate

...and Wise!
John managed to make a really tricky and messy part of my healing journey, into a kind of loving chat over a virtual cup of tea, in a nice warm virtual kitchen with virtual cake.
Comfort! Ah! I loved it and found it really helpful on that deep level that you can't even begin to describe! 🤣😁

This unlocked some answers for me

After reading other books by John Crawford, I had looked forward to this one and was not disappointed. I found that listening to the audio version helped in a slightly different way to reading the book although both were valuable. I found the ideas about self worth very enlightening as I really had never separated it from self esteem before but now I understand. The comments about abusive parenting helped me in that, although we can forgive a parent, we can still acknowledge that we didn't receive what we should have and it is NOT OUR FAULT. We are good enough however much we might tell ourselves we are not. There are some ideas in the book that I found a little controversial but I like to keep an open mind and it certainly makes for interesting reading. The exercises are, in my opinion, well worth doing. They do help, as does the relaxation. I have read many self help books and most of them do have good, helpful things to say, but I can honestly say I have never read anything before which actually works and continues working. It gets into your inner self and somehow you just get it. It sounds dramatic to call it life changing but that's what it is.

Five stars once again!

Once again John has delivered a wonderful encouragement to anybody who feels any less than 100% comfortable with themselves at all times.
He embraces our humanity “warts and all“ and really does give lots and lots of information and advice and encouragement. As well as that he gives plenty of exercises to really engage with to make a difference, a big difference, to our perception of ourselves, to our own self-care, to our own relationship with ourselves. And he does this with dignity, integrity, humour, and humanity. I’m so pleased that he’s done his own narration and told his own story in a way that helps us to honour our own stories too. His message is helpful, hopeful, heartfelt, healing and, best of all, true. Thank you once again John, for helping to make the world a better place!

Interesting and helpful

Written by someone who has experience of the issues he is writing about and therefore the ideas and advice are practical and useful. Helpful not patronising. Would recommend.

Interesting and Engaging

A great audio-book. John delves into the detail of self-love in thorough and practical terms. This book is anything but flakey (while so many books on self-love are). It is robust, well thought out and talks about self-love in a way which is both easy to understand and put into action. John makes his points by drawing on all sorts of interesting facts and perspectives, making it an enjoyable and compelling listen. I didn't fully agree with one or two of his ideas, so some may find this book challenging if they are easily offended or the argumentative sort. Don't let that put you off though, as it's for this very same reason that the book is both fascinating and engaging.

Great Book

'How to Love Your Inner Human' is narrated by the author and is clear and easy to listen to. John Crawford reveals ideas and ways of thinking that you will not have thought of yourself, His years of working with individuals is clearly evident as he totally understands people. His book is full of originality. He teaches you how to forgive yourself for past mistakes and shows how past events and upbringing influence people and make them the way they are. I have read John's book 'Anxiety Relief' which was tremendously helpful to me and having now read/listened to two of his books I can say without hesitation that he gives his books 100% and is genuinely caring and concerned for people. Having suffered and recovered himself, he really does know what he is talking about. I am afraid I am not as eloquent as John but I urge you to listen to this audiobook or buy the paperback if you have problems with low self esteem etc.
