Summary

Hardworking Isabelle Cook has a serious problem. Her family farm, site of Tilikum’s Christmas Village, is in trouble. Big trouble. And worst of all? The man trying to buy it is none other than the grumpiest, grinchiest man of them all—Elias Stoneheart.

That’s a big nope. She’s not letting him get involved. Not with his heart made of coal.

Elias Stoneheart is in the business of making money, not friends. Especially when his boss is promising a long-awaited promotion. All he has to do is convince one struggling family to sell their farm.

The problem? It’s Cook Family Farm. And Isabelle Cook is his ex.

He might have history with Isabelle, but this is just business. A Christmas-loving farm girl is not going to come between him and his ambition. And Christmas? He hates it. Christmas Village needs to go. But as Elias spends time in the small town, holiday spirit—and Isabelle—get under his skin. And she might be the only one who can melt the ice around his heart.

Author’s note: A sassy farm girl takes on a grumpy businessman in this stand-alone snowy small-town Christmas romance. Includes saucy banter, a guard donkey, plenty of holiday cheer, and a heartwarming happily ever after that will make you believe in the magic of Christmas.

Great first audio by Claire

🎧 AUDIO REVIEW 🎧

🌟🌟🌟🌟

Really got into the Christmas spirit with this book, loved the sides characters and made me want to go read their books for ones who have them and I am excited for future books.

I thought their was chemistry with these guys, I just got annoyed at them at points that I couldn’t give it the 5 star. However the audio was definitely 5 star.

If your looking for a second chance romance, with Christmas spirit give this book ago. It also in KU.

absolutely fantastic must read

5*
Isabelle is working hard trying to keep the farm going and make sure the Christmas Village stays open.
Elias isn't much for Christmas and makes sure everyone knows it, he's  often referred to as the Grinch.
When Elias finds out the plans his boss has for the farm he thinks he can succeed and secure his promotion hoping to use his history with Isabelle.
What a fantastic story I loved it.   Instantly the characters kept me interested as I was desperate to know more about Isabella after reading the Bailey Brothers series as she's a good friend of Annika Haven.
I would definitely recommend listening or reading this book.

Filthy language

A few minutes in and the language was so bad, I stopped it immediately. I just don’t understand why they have to use this kind of language.

Perfection

Stephen Dexter and Samantha Brentmoor were the perfect narrators for this novel.
OMG Dexter gave life to Elias the Grinch in a manner that I never expected.
I throughly enjoyed listening to this book. Ten glorious stars.

Scrooge Reimagined

One of the best retellings of A Christmas Carol with subtle, and not so subtle, nods to the original. I like that the MMCs character didn’t immediately change and love Christmas. For the most part the story is well written except for the addition of the kids getting lost (main story and epilogue) there is no point either time. Definitely didn’t move the story forward or reveal anything about characters or provide interest/suspense. That section could easily have been left out and the story wouldn’t change.
The performances were

Enjoyable!

This was my first Claire Kingsley book, and it was a solid read!

What I loved:
1. It has Christmas charm in spades.
2. Loved the whole town of secondary characters.
3. This second chance couple was super cute. I enjoyed seeing them reconnect and for the hero to fall back into the fold of the farm.
4. A charming, grumpy yet sweet underneath hero.
5. I really liked the heroine as she well. She was honorable and always trying to do the best she could.
6. Good narrators.

What I wanted more of:
1. The steam seemed lacking. It wasn’t fade to black, but for some reason I thought it would steamier from the way other readers have talked about her book.

Overall, it was a really cute Christmas romance with a dash of steam.

Heartwarming story. Great narration

This would be if How the Grinch Stole Christmas were an 80s telenovela.

And there is nothing wrong with it. Like everybody else, I enjoyed reading this one--rather, listening to this one. In a true Claire Kingsley fashion, the writing and the dialogue are something to look forward to. It was set from the first few chapters that Elias and Isabelle were former lovers. What got me more intrigued is if the Grinch element of Elias' character was the result of their fallout or something and at the same time, what made them fall out. I liked the idea that their backstory is revealed in bite-sized pieces. It makes me anticipate the next chapter, especially as this one tends to have one that is almost half an hour long.

Aside from the storyline, I also adored the narration in this book. Stephen Dexter was just amazing here. I loved how he transformed into a full-blown grinch in the first few chapters, feeling his dislike for the most wonderful time of the year--and how he came to like it again. Samantha Brentmoor was also good. She also captured the emotions of our heroine in the story, complementing Stephen's narration in the production.

In closing, I never expected to love another Christmas novel like this one. I am not big on Christmas celebrations, but this made me long (or should I say regret?) for Christmas traditions. Regardless, this book indeed accomplished its goal of melting the hearts of cold-hearted people over the holiday season. This is truly one of them good Christmas reads.

Not what I was expecting

Though my expectations were low, I was surprised with certain chapters that came up. I felt like the character development was rushed and I didn’t love any one character. Cute story but could have been better with more character development.
