Summary
Libby Chance Sims was orphaned, along with her siblings, at an early age, traveled west on the Oregon Trail, and thought she had her fairytale ending when she met and married a good man at trail's end. But 10 years later, when her husband is killed in a logging accident, her life takes a horrific turn at the hands of unscrupulous "family friend", Hector. Fearing for herself and the lives of her two boys, she flees Oregon for Haskell, Wyoming and her family. But has she run far enough to escape her past?
Mason Montrose has never forgotten Libby, the beautiful, young bride he fell in love with before realizing she was married 10 years ago in Oregon. When she steps down from the train in Haskell, dressed in widow's black with fear in her eyes, all of the affection and longing for her that he thought he put behind him returns. He will stop at nothing to protect Libby from the demons chasing her, both real and emotional, even marrying her to keep her safe.
Some demons are more sinister than others, though. When Hector arrives in Haskell, it takes more than the power of Mason's love and devotion to Libby to defeat him, it takes an entire community.

Sweet, hopeful with a heavy dose of honest.
Merry Farmer has written a surprising honest book with a heavy dose of hope. With incredible sensitivity, she covers the issue of consent and rape as well as the unfortunate guilt and prejudice the victim suffers from after the fact.
What is hopeful is the community, and mainly Mason and his friends, when Libby's truth is uncovered. Unlike what would most likely have been the norm of the times, key members of the community band together to support and protect Libby.
It is a heart-warming, simple book with a wonderful HEA. Caroline McLaughlin has a naturally gently way of narrating the book which fits well with the story. Overall, despite (or maybe because of) the hard issues in the plot, this is an enjoyable story.

Good Quick listen
I enjoyed this book. the narrator was very good and kept the story moving forward. She did the voices with care. Loved the boy's voices. Hector was evil personified. I am also glad that she included in the story that not all mail order brides marry the men they are intended for. Libby is accosted when her husband dies and flees the lumber camp riddled with guilt. Hector follows her and tries to ruin her reputation. He is a bully but Mason saves the day. This is less than five hours so when you have some free minutes to listen do so. It is worth the time. I got this book via audiobook boom. You will enjoy the story and you will love the narrator.

His Heartbroken Bride
Libby must start over after a tragic accident claims her husband. But she is having to accelerate her time frame on that after a man that worked with her husband won't leave her alone. And Hector is bad to the core. Returning to her adopted family and meeting up with the one that got away she hopes her and her boys have a new chance at happiness.
The town characters are just great and really they make the story. The ladies from the brothel are some of my favorites!

Good Second Chance Romance
Any additional comments?
When Libby's husband of ten years dies suddenly in a logging accident, she is assaulted by an evil man named Hector. Riddled with guilt and fearing for herself and her two children, she flees the logging camp but is carrying Hector's baby. She escapes to Wyoming and is confronted with seeing Mason, who she had known before she married. Mason has always been in love with Libby and now has a second chance to be with her. When Hector comes to town to claim her, Mason proves his love and devotion to Libby and will stop at nothing to protect her. I enjoyed His Heartbroken Bride and the narration was well done. I would recommend this.

Beautiful Love Story
I was gifted this audio ARC from the author/Narrator for a honest and unbiased review
Merry Farmer did an amazing job writing this love story that touches your heart. It wouldn't be a great audiobook without the telling of it by Caroline McLaughlin who has a smooth voice.
This is a story set back in days of old, rape then love.
I highly recommend this book to everyone

A sweet happily ever after.
This book was a short, sweet, and simple romance set in the turn of the 19th century. The author did a good job of making Libby anguished by her recent tragedies but not angsty and annoying. The 'villain', Hector, was believable and easy to hate. Mason was charming, solid, and straightforward. All in all, a good 4 hours.

A very pleasant surprise
This is a story about second chances. Libby and Mason meet up after 10 years of separation. She was married to someone else and had two sons with her husband before he died in an accident after which time she returns to her hometown and meets up with Mason again.
I loved the support and kindness that Mason showed for her, always believing in her and wanting only what was best for her.
Her sons are as cute as can be.
There is an evil, conniving villain who has sworn to destroy their lives. He reckons that if he can't have her, then it was up to him to spread rumors about her to destroy what she had with Mason.
This story has been written in such a way that I was left wanting more from the author, Merry Farmer and narrator, Caroline McLaughlin and am quite happy to recommend either the book or audiobook.
I was supplied with the audiobook version by the author/narrator and this is my unbiased and honest review.
