Summary
Renowned cardiologist Carter Rogers is used to having things under control. His life, his prestigious reputation, his career, his future.
Things he can’t control this time around:
- His meddling grandfather
- His annoying gamer cousin
- Buggy South American jungles
- Being the meat in a feuding cartel sandwich
- Getting kidnapped by a monologuing drug lord
- Falling for his very hot, very mouthy ex-Special Forces bodyguard
In short, Carter’s peaceful, well-planned life has been...hijacked.

I loved the tongue in cheek humour.
Maybe it's because I'm a Brit, but I love the simple humour of Licking Thicket. Although this wasn't as entertaining as in the other books, it was still a great listen.
I know others had an issue with the Spanish accents, I didn't as I don't speak a word of Spanish, so I suppose that helped.
Riggs, I could picture easily as an American beefcake and a little no it all. Carter, on the other hand, I had trouble with his character, not sure why.
But the romance side and the Horn of Glory, I had no trouble with. I love how Lucy and May come up with all the names and innuendos, my kind of humour. Borderline pure filth.
This is a great story, zany characters, lust, kidnapping, gaming. Well written, has good narration, and overall a really fun read.

Slow and boring
Messy story and hard to follow. Only a few good scenes. Not worth it.

OK,
This book was really entertaining at times but, personally, I didn't like the narrator. His attempt at a Spanish accent sounded more Scottish to me but this is only a personal opinion.

Great story but...
I'll cut to the chase. If you've read other Licking Thicket stories you know exactly what you'll get with this one, and enjoy the heck out of the story! It's wonderful.
What's not so wonderful? Michael Dean's poor attempt at accents. His Spanish accent was only slightly better than his attempt to speak the Spanish dialogue from the book. His pronunciation was flat-out WRONG and cringeworthy. It might have been written off as the American characters not speaking Spanish, and therefore, not pronouncing words properly, but even the Mexican characters mispronounced words! My second-hand embarrassment was HIGH. He also kept drifting in and out of a southern accent for the main characters, Carter and Riggs. Overall, I've enjoyed his narration of the rest of the Thicket stories, but this one was painful to listen to. My suggestion? Buy the book and enjoy this wonderful visit with our Licking Thicket friends!

Sweet and Hilarious
This is a spin off from the Licking Thicket series and was even better than expected.
This was such a wholesome, fun and sweet opposites attract romance.
The world building was descriptive, engaging and compelling.
The chemistry between the characters was hot, sinful and palpable.
I'm super glad that the Authors decided to do a spin off of this series.
As usual Michael Dean performed an amazing audio delivery and narration.

Too slapstick for the premise
The plot holes in this novel are big enough to drive planes through - several, abreast. I like the thicket books and the like 4 chapters that happen in town are fine - but the tongue-in-cheek ridiculousness comes off as stupid and disjointed in a situation that's supposed to be dangerous. It absolutely destroyed any tension (sexual or otherwise). It also felt like the authors did absolutely ZERO research into doctors, much less doctors without borders (which they knockoff in this book). I finished it, but it took nearly a week (part of which I slept through and didn't care) because I kept thinking I should get my money back, but I LOVED the other thicket books and kept hoping this would give up it's miniscule effort towards action or intrigue. I know these authors CAN do action and intrigue. This book, unfortunately, read like they wrote it drunk or high.

Good book. Narrator could use Spanish lessons.
While I enjoyed the story, I was very perturbed by the narrator‘s inability to pronounce simple Spanish words properly. He would be much better if those three cents. I’ve never heard such horrible pronunciations of such simple Spanish words.

Not what I expected
This wasn’t the story I’d imagined for Carter, but I stayed with it and wasn’t disappointed. Riggs is hired as the personal security detail for Carter’s trip to Venezuela for a Doctors Without Borders type of mission. And what results is a playful, close-proximity, enemies to lovers, crazy-making in captivity, adventure.
Not a lot of ‘The Thicket’ is present in this story, so if you want small town shenanigans, you’ll probably want to skip this one.
If you’re open to a spin-off and the start of a new series, you might enjoy this one.

Hijacked
"You're unexpected in the best way. On paper, we have nothing in common, but you fill up a part of me I didn't know was empty until we met. You challenge me. You're adventurous and wild, but you're also sweet and thoughtful."
A laugh-out-loud, twisting story that will have you glued to the pages.
Riggs has messed up at work, yet again, and is put on what he sees as a babysitting job accompanying Cater on his trip to Venezuela. While helping the people of Venezuela, Riggs and Carter are captured and must find a way to get home safely all while trying to remain professional.
Riggs and Carter's story is highly entertaining with a twist of suspense that kept me interested right from the very beginning. The story was different than I expected but could not seem to put it down and found myself laughing out loud multiple times. This was my first book by both of these authors and I will definitely be reading more from both in the future.
Audio... Michael Dean did a good job of bringing all of the characters and the story to life.
4 Maple Leafs... Hijacked is a m/m, bodyguard, medical, romantic comedy that is told in the dual first-person point of view.

The SPANISH
Oh my! I can't even tell you if the story was good or not because the narrator did such a horrible job. I usually like Michael Dean but oh lord, I had to stop listening after he said, "Como se llama" and pronounced it llama like the animal and not yama. And he said akwee, instead of aquí. And I just couldn't. Even his southern accent was bad. I don't know. Maybe the story is good but Michael Dean failed here. However, don't write off books if he is the narrator. He usually is quite good but, wow, just wow. This was awful.
Get the Kindle book instead and give that a go. Don't subject yourself to this absolute pathetic attempt at narration.

enjoyed it
Would I listen to it again: probably
Did the story keep me engaged: reasonably
Was I invested in the characters: mostly
📖 Story comment: Good pace, likeable characters, entertaining story.
Enjoyed the story and I was reasonably entertained. I didn't connect with Carter's character in this one as much as I did in 'Fools' - his character didn't have the same kind of charm (which was disappointing).
🎧 Narrator comment: I enjoyed Michael Dean's narration, he suits the characters, has good cadence, inflections and intonations and it's easy to distinguish the characters from each other. Overall an enjoyable performance.

📌 Where does it fall on my personal scale? 5
• 1 not my thing • 2 didn't like the narration • 3 didn't keep my attention • 4 was good, but once was enough • 5 enjoyed it • 6 will listen again if i'm in the mood for the narrator • 7 goes on the "re-listen" list • 8 kept me up past bed-time • 9 recommended to family/friends • 10 own it in multiple formats • 11 keep a copy with me at all times

Love itLoved it!
I just love the writing style of these two! Funny, quirky, entertaining, and so easy to get wrapped up in the story. Micheal Deal is my new favorite narrator. If you haven’t listened to the first three books from the Licking Thicket series, it’s a must!
