About this listen

Hide and Seek is a fast paced psychological thriller that will keep you hooked and listening nonstop to reach the shocking final revelation.

Peter Stevenson reluctantly returns to his home-town for the first time in 20 years to attend the funeral of a friend who seemingly committed suicide. The somber occasion reunites him with the surviving members of his gang of childhood friends, and they spend the evening reminiscing their teenage days.

Peter wakes up the next day stranded in a cabin in the woods feeling like he was drugged and with no recollection of the night before. He returns to the town to find answers but instead discovers that all his friends are missing.

A shadowy figure called Celo contacts Peter and forces him to play a twisted game of Hide and Seek. Celo gives him a clue every hour to find each of his kidnapped friends who have been hidden throughout the town in traps that, if not deactivated in time, will kill off all six people one by one.

As he races against the clock to find his friends, on the run from the police who suspect he is behind the crimes, Peter discovers that Celo could actually be one of the friends he is trying to save.

Where does Hide and Seek rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is one of the best books I have listened too. It was very fast paced.

What did you like best about this story?

I loved the voice of the man on the phone it was like a voice changer. I can't imagine reading the book would be as good.

Have you listened to any of Mark Capell’s other performances? How does this one compare?

No

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It was more of shock at the ending although my husband listened to it after me he did guess the ending.

Any additional comments?

I hope P S Brown has another audio book released.

Although the story had potential, the monotone narration spoilt this for me. As the story progressed there were tense moments and scary bits but the narrator's voice did not reflect any of that unfortunately. Also some of the descriptions of the childhood scenes were very long and there were several seemingly pointless descriptions of the neighbourhood etc. Again, due to the delivery these probably seemed worse. I think I would have enjoyed this more if I had read it myself.
