An excellent rendition
When I heard the sample of Barbara Rosenblat reading this book I could not resist getting it. She sounds exactly as I had imagined Amelia Peabody to sound. If you enjoyed reading the books you will enjoy hearing Barbara read them to you again, particularly if, like me, you listen to them with a friend who also enjoys the books. The shared laughter is twice as good.

The moment we've all been waiting for...
This is the 12th book in Elizabeth Peters' Amelia Peabody series. The books are part archeology, part crime/murder mystery, part family saga and overall extremely funny. I'm sure different people enjoy them for different aspects, personally, I enjoy all of these aspects but as time goes on I think it's the family saga that appeals to me the most. For other fans who feel the same way this is the book they have been waiting for!
If you have listened to (or read) all the books in the series so far then this book is the pay-back for the heart-break of 'Falcon at the Portal'. I think fans will find that in this book Peters manages to answer all the questions, and resolve all the loose ends - and I do mean all of them!
'He Shall Thunder in the Sky' is not a good choice for a first Peabody to listen to - for best effect these books should be experienced in order, starting with 'Crocodile on the Sandbank' - I think it would still be enjoyable but the relevance of some parts would be lost.
All in all I didn't find that there was a single disappointing moment, enjoy!

Wonderful
This is my most favourite of the Amelia Peabody stories available so far at audible. The writing is brilliant, so witty and intelligent, and the narration is nothing short of amazing. I really liked all the characters' voices - half-way through I was starting to fall in love with Ramasses! I think the reader must be American because of the way she pronounces a couple of words - this makes it even more stunning if it is the case. I just wish all the books were available here.

At Last!
I'm quite late to this series, so am listening to the books in order (and waited to read The Painted Queen before I continued with the other books). The story was full of thrills, spills and, as ever, brilliantly narrated by Barbara Rosenblat.

He Shall Thunder in the Sky
Time moves on and this was a much darker story, but again, well written and well narrated

Good old Amelia
I already knew this was a fantastic story and I enjoyed hearing it very much. HOWEVER, although the reader is excellent at the female voices, her version of Ramses REALLY didn't work for me. And why did she give David an accent?

I really like this series. The commentary on gender roles tinged with great humour all wrapped up in a mystery. Wonderful.

Great audiobook
This is my favourite book in the Amelia Peabody series and I have reread it countless times. Barbara Rosenblat really did it justice. She brings all of these wonderful characters to life in a great way. She made this audiobook as good if not better than the book. It makes you laugh, cry, tear up, love and want to shake them all in turn. Great story and great voice

5⭐️ Brilliant
Again we are transported to Egypt. This time The Great War is raging and as always the Emerson’s are drawn into danger....so much danger! Perfect narration, is it just like seeing a film inside your head. I think it is Barbara Rosenblats voice that makes these books so enjoyable. I did download another Amelia book narrated by someone else. I just couldn’t listen to it. Enjoy the especially deadly peril in this book.

Excellent!
This is a wonderful tale, told with humor and knowledge. I've listened to all the books in the series, and this was definitely the best. Amelia can be a bit egotistical, so injecting some more "objective" narrative can be a relief. And this narrator - Barbara Rosenblat - is fantastic, with a range of voices that is truly awesome.

Excellent as always!
No disappointment in this book. The characters are continuously growing and the younger members of the family are following in Amelia's footsteps. The readers voice too is aging which is appropriate. The additional manuscripts from Ramses and Nephret shed a lot of detail to the story. The only disappointment is that Audible has chosen not to carry the unabridged versions of the next 3 books, and they ARE available. Too bad, I won't waste money on abridged versions.

This was the best of the first 12
Barbara Rosenblat is wonderful, and the characters have truly, matured and grown over the years. I am really sorry that the next three titles are only available in ABRIDGED form. I will try to get in large print because I'm visually impaired. After reading I will continue, with the unabridged title # 16. I couldn't even find 13,14,15, unabridged on audio anywhere. seems the publisher didn't think it necessary. If after I read the 13,14 and 15 and I wish to listen to the ABRIDGED version I'll consider. I 'll never understand the way publishers think or do things. If any you have been following the series and are up to this title don't miss it. I really enjoyed, especially the ending.

Boring
I found this novel to be slow and boring. I listened through the first segment, and I could take no more. The reader continually swallows her saliva audibly, and I found that to be distracting. From the looks of the other reviews, I am in the minority. I class this as one of the worst books I have purchased from audible, and the only one I could not stand to finish.

Thank me later. Barbara Rosenblat is superb as usual. If you like a dash of tortured romance in your mystery, this is the book for you.

Dependably Enjoyable
This series is a favorite. The history is reliable, the style is authentic, and the plots are engaging. The the characters are likable and amusing; their development and their changing relationships pique interest in the ongoing saga.
A great plus in the audio versions is the amazing Barbara Rosenblat, who gives each character a distinctive and convincing voice.

Book for the Author & Reader's friends & relatives
I liked the reader's voice for about 3 minutes and then found it tiresome. The story moves along as interestingly as a screeching sawblade moving towards the proverbial hero in the sawmill. I was interested to see if I could pull myself away in time to do something useful with my time. Sorry to disappoint your relatives and friend who reviewed it ahead of me.

A really good book
This book tied up many loose ends of the series. Exciting action!!! Ramses and David are involved in secret work for the British government in Egypt during WWI. Sethos the master criminal plays a big part and we learn a big secret about him. Percy is as evil as a person can be and I longed for revenge against him. The Emerson’s learn about the relationship between Nefret and Ramses. The action is intense – especially during the last couple of hours. Wonderful book. Even though the series continues, it could stop right here and I would be quite content. Ramses has always been my favorite character and he really shines in this book.
