Summary

Happiness for Humans is a joyful, romantic and very funny story, perfect for those who loved The Rosie Project and Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine

Do you believe in soulmates?

Aiden does. So when his colleague, Jen, is dumped unceremoniously by her dreadful boyfriend, Aiden decides to take matters - and Jen's life - into his own hands.

Scouring the internet for a suitable partner for Jen, Aiden finds Tom. He'd be perfect for Jen apart from one minor detail: Tom lives in New York.

Luckily for Jen and Tom, Aiden's not just an interfering colleague. In fact, Aiden isn't exactly human - he's a very complicated artificial intelligence.

As Jen and Tom's romance grows, Aiden begins to take more and more risks to make sure that they can be together. But what will happen if they realise how they met...and that somebody else is pulling the strings?

An unusual RomCom

So this book is about AI doing a bit of matchmaking. It's an easy listen, standard UK characters talking about their loves and lives, with a little bit of artificial intelligence mixed in. (I best not say Robots!)

AI romcom gives a fresh twist to the genre

Any additional comments?

I have to be honest and say that this book had me the minute I heard an Artificial Intelligence doing an immaculate Rob Bryden impression (credit to Gavin Osborn). It was great fun if a little let down by the ending. Recommended.

AI fun

Great concept & enjoyable. Characters (especially the AI ones) are great but overall plot a bit weak

Best narrator ever!

I loved everything about this book and it worked so well as an audiobook - I’m recommending my friends listen to rather than read it. The story is unconventional, with many laugh outloud moments, great characters and lots of plot twists. The narrator really made it - You won’t be able to get Rob Brydon out of your head.

Loveable characters

If you could sum up Happiness for Humans in three words, what would they be?

Funny, clever, different

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Laugh, giggle

Any additional comments?

The Welsh accent absolutely made Aiden as a loveable, funny, warm character, despite his inanimate qualities, the narration was excellent.

Wonderful listen

Brilliantly funny, touching and entertaining listen. A real “couldn’t put it down” read! Absolutely loved the voices created by the narrator who matched them to the characters to perfection. One of the best performances I have heard and one of the best books. Cannot recommend highly enough, more stars required.!

Made this human happy

I really enjoyed this book. The storyline is fascinating and the humour is excellent - as in laughing out loud while walking the dog! Narrator also excellent. Highly recommended.

Bridget Jones meets iRobot...

I was in need of a distraction that had interest, humour, bit of suspense and great characters.... all very believable. Touch of “ rise of the robots” but wrapped up in easy to roll along with suspense... a villain out of the blue that made me say out loud “ oh no”!

Soppy, two dimensional characters

Boring, simplistic (angelic woman, despicable men) not funny, predictable. Might appeal to more sensitive types who don’t like to much depth in their characters.
