We share the triumphs and tragedies of a group of elite soldier trailblazers as they commit daring raids behind enemy lines in 1944, manage an against-the-odds escape to victory and then seek post-war retribution for the terrible murder of their captured comrades. SAS Band of Brothers is replete with action, peppered with great characters and features two of the most daring escapes of WWII. It ends with the hunted becoming the hunters - a group of men intent on seeking out the Nazis responsible for their brethren's deaths, on an ultra-deniable SAS mission to avenge a war crime.

The Sherwood Rangers were one of the great tank regiments. They had learned their trade the hard way, under the burning sun of North Africa, on the battlefields of El Alamein and Alam el Halfa. By the time they landed on Gold Beach on D-Day, they were toughened by experience and ready for combat. From that moment on, the Sherwood Rangers were in the thick of the action til the war's end. They and their Sherman tanks covered thousands of miles and endured some of the fiercest fighting in Western Europe.

March 1945. Allied troops are poised to cross the Rhine and sweep on into Germany. Victory is finally within their grasp. But if they believe this victory can be easily won, they face swift disillusionment. The final 100 days of the Second World War will prove to be bitterly and bloodily fought, village by village, town by town. Acclaimed military historian Peter Caddick-Adams brings this closing stage of the Allies' fight against Nazi Germany brilliantly to life. Story
'If Hitler fails to invade or destroy Britain, he has lost the war,' Churchill said in the summer of 1940. He was right. The Battle of Britain was a crucial turning point in the history of the Second World War. Had Britain's defences collapsed, Hitler would have dominated all of Europe and been able to turn his full attention east to the Soviet Union. The German invasion of France and the Low Countries in May 1940 was unlike any the world had ever seen. It hit with a force and aggression that no-one could counter and in just a few short weeks, all in their way crumbled.

Summary
The compelling WWII correspondence of Major Dick Winters, commander of the Band of Brothers.
Major Dick Winters of the 101st Airborne gained international acclaim when the tale of he and his men were depicted in the celebrated book and miniseries Band of Brothers. Hoisted as a modest hero who spurned adulation, Winters epitomized the notion of dignified leadership. His iconic World War II exploits have since been depicted in art and commemorated with monuments.
Beneath this marble image of a reserved officer is the story of a common Pennsylvanian tested by the daily trials and tribulations of military duty. His wartime correspondence with pen pal and naval reservist DeEtta Almon paints an endearing portrait of life on both the home front and battlefront - capturing the humor, horror, and humility that defined a generation. Interwoven with postwar reminiscences and rich historical context, Winters' letters offer compelling insights on the individual costs and motivations of World War II service members.

Magnificent
I’ve always been keen to learn more about those exceptional ‘Band of Brothers’. I wasn’t sure I’d like a book based on personal letters. How wrong I was. Once started I couldn’t stop listening. The story is fascinating and gives an insight into those true heroes. The narration was equally good. Can thoroughly recommend this to any with an interest in the subject.

what a great story of a hero's life and struggles.
I wasn't too sure what I'd think about this audiobook. as it's just the letters of Dick Winters, but, I found myself captivated with his look on life and management styles. constantly changing and adapting his views and decisions made. As the war waged on, you can hear the difference in words written to D. The things he witnessed and did, really changed him as the years went on. what a great story of a hero's life and struggles.

The book provides a personal perspective of Dick Winters that I have never read/listened to before. the book is not about tactics or patriotism, it's about a deep and wonderful friendship. I felt the emotion in every letter. The performance is wonderful and the context provided by the authors helped add context to every letter. I cannot recommend this book enough.

Beware: If you hero worship Winters, caution
if you idolize Winters, use caution. He is a brash, chauvinistic, sexist, and condescending writer while corresponding with DeEtta. The Winters you know had decades to reflect and humble himself after these letters were written. The conversation is one-way. This is not a smooth back and forth. The narrator cannot pronounce foreign places appropriately and it may grind your nerves.

A great insight to a heroes mind
At first I thought this would be a boring book with love letters. I could not have been more wrong. The letters that Major Winters sent to his pen pal lady friend were very enlightening. If you like or follow the Band of Brothers series this is a must read/listen book. Eric Door at the Gettysburg Museum had ensured that Dick Winters and his legacy will live on.

A Wonderful Tribute Tarnished by Mispronunciation.
One would think that an effort would have been made to correctly pronounce the names of locations that figure so prominently in the war time experiences of this amazing man. Alas, nearly every place name is butchered by the narrator, inducing a cringe each time. (Frankly, the narrator should be ashamed.) Nevertheless, the book is a wonderful tribute to Dick Winters, and a unique window into his war time experiences.
