About this listen
Explore How the Slaves Freed Themselves in the Haitian Revolution
The Haitian Revolution was a slave rebellion that began in 1791 in the French colony of Saint-Domingue, now known as Haiti. On this small island, the tyrants were the slave owners, people who not only denied their slaves freedom, but felt justified in killing them.
The Haitian Revolution began to change the way slaves were viewed all over the world. Although it took nearly another 100 years to eradicate slavery in the west, the parallels between what the Americans and French had done to the slaves was impossible to ignore. The Haitian Revolution was the first and only time that a slave rebellion resulted in a new state.

A Must-Have Book
Any additional comments?
I knew that Haiti was the only country that had a successful uprising of its slaves. I didn't realize how much different the concept of slavery was in Haiti then in the United States, in Haiti it was cheaper to work to slaves the death then breed them. The book explains why there are two countries on that island.

Revolutionary Book
Any additional comments?
This book contains lots of fascinating tidbits about the history of Haiti which many people have probably never heard before (did you know the US once feared invasion by Haiti?). It gives a very complete and fairly balanced view of the good, bad, and ugly of Haiti's history in the first half of the book then gives a lot of political background towards the second half.

Insightful
Any additional comments?
It was a very insightful book building up in the historical events which made the first black independent country in the world. I would say for any who is interested in history, this book is recommendable.

Great Display Of Writing A Revolution Story
Any additional comments?
Excellent review of the incredible political history and consequences of Haitian politics. No wonder the situation in Haiti is so bad in clouding the natural disasters.

Concise Guide
Any additional comments?
Excellent and concise review of Haitian history. Well written and does not get bogged down in detail that would distract from the overview.

Absolutely Amazing
Any additional comments?
For an overview of something as complex as the Haitian Revolution this was very informative and well done. I didn't feel like it was rushed or half-done. Some minor proofreading needs to happen but that's it.

Revolution Story
Any additional comments?
The Haitian revolution is a complicated topic, but I thought it was explained well, especially for a book of its size. I will keep other Hourly History books in mind in the future for both homeschooling and my own personal fulfillment and enjoyment.
