Love, ecology, family, friends & a composting loo!

Firstly the story itself was really interesting and I just loved the cover. Tim or 'Timbo' is a man who wants to lead a better life with nature in mind however finds himself stuck in an office job with colleagues who are more interested in having the latest car with no regard to the environmental impact. Don't get me wrong, this story isn't thrusting ecology down your throat and making you feel bad if you aren't doing well for the environment. Instead it looks at the desire of some humans to try and make their world - be that just their garden space or the entire world as a whole - into a better place for plants, animals and humans. I love nature so listening to how people developed their gardens into little habitats for creatures was really heart warming. I've picked up lots of ideas and learned a lot too.

Behind all of the habitat parts of the story is a man wanting to find love, despite his insecurities and despite his fear about his past coming out. He is absolutely a good man and you'll really warm to him. His long standing friend and house mate initially comes through as a bit of a pain in the arse, however you might warm to her too.... She's cooky, a bit strange, perhaps a bit lazy, but is always thinking up new ideas for the use of her costing for nature software. Their are plenty of characters in this book, all of whom I liked in one way or another, and it is filled richly with people on their own journeys, crossing paths with Tim as he takes on his own, new journey. The conclusion to the story was unexpected in a good way and perhaps tied up all too quickly as I wanted to know a little more, however it was a perfectly good ending.

On to the narrator, Matt Coles, who I think did a fantastic job. I enjoyed the story-telling & the different character voices which gave them all their own identity. A couple you may find a bit abrasive, but the voices really suit their personalities and help you inform your first impressions of them - which I think is really important to the storyline. Matt brings out the characters emotions & personalities really well in his narration. I'd happily listen to more books narrated by Matt & also those written by D.A.Baden.
