Summary

Shape-shifters, battle mages, and blood magic-wielding bad guys, or as Orson Reid calls it - Tuesday. Luckily for Orson, the rumors are true; he is the Ollphiest, the monster that even monsters fear.

Now, as the newest member of the Paragon Society, Orson is eyeballs-deep in a crash course on battle magic. He spends his days training with Lucy, who attempts to slice, dice, and set him on fire. Seriously.

So, when the society directs them to check out a possible rogue magic user in Northern California, Orson is more than happy for the break.

A total of 350 miles north of Los Angeles, a college sophomore, in a desperate attempt at love, has unwittingly unleashed chaos, placing Orson and Lucy on a collision course with mayhem.

Good downward spiral!

For something that started as an excellent series it quickly spiraled downward. The first book started off excellent but had a serious down ending. In this book the main character becomes more of a sideline to the story than actually doing anything meaningful to advance the characters story. In fact the true main character of this story was really the villain because it spent more time dealing with the villains motivations and actions then with what should’ve been the main character. The battle mage was so rude and belligerent she should’ve been shot in the head I was actually hoping that would happen by the end of the story. Well I have tried with two books but the storyline is spiraling into stupidity so I’m giving up on this book series. Maybe the author would do something better and maybe I’ll look at his other stuff but the storyline is a dead end to me.

Lost Charm

This second book in the series lost the charm of the first book. Didn’t engage me. I’m crossing my fingers that the third book revs back up again.

Shifters, trolls, spells from the dark side!

Gypsy Witch
A Paragon Society Novel, Book 2
By: David Delaney
Narrated by: Matt Godfrey
This story has many things going on at the same time. The story of Lucy training Orson. A witch that agrees to make a dark blood sacrifice spell for a guy for a love spell for him. Things go terribly wrong! The two stories come together and even more action happens then! This is funny, witty, crazy, suspenseful, and unpredictable!
The narration was great! He made the dialogue, especially when Orson talks to his beast.

It has definite potential.

My problem was with the narrator. The guy's voice shook at times for no real reason. I took me out of the story and left me feeling...nervous? It's weird.

The story itself was decent. I feel like the feminism inisde the story wasn't need. We suffer through this anti-male environment daily, so I like my fantasy books to be void of it.

The main character was, of course, over-powered, but I liked it. He doesn't, however, seemt to have much of a personality of his own. There's nothing...unique about him, other than his powers. The writer could have given him some personality flaws or something. He's so generic.

Finally, I will end this review by saying that there was too much fluff in this book. Like the first book, it felt slow and somewhat empty. I understand not wanting to write a bunch of drama scenes, but at least give me more action.

With all that said, this was still a good book. I'm NOT looking forward to the next one. I do not like that female character, so having an entire book about her really turns me off. Kind of wish I could speak with the author directly.

Protagonist

I’m just waiting for the lead to take a different approach and stop being walked all over and having people dictate his actions. I would love to be able to see him break loose. On I side note I was super happy when Lucy got shot in the face it was the highlight of the whole book.

A good second book.

I enjoyed this second book. It brings more of the lore and world building of books into focus but the chapters with Jimmy seem like a teenage soap opera. I can appreciate the trap magic can make one fall into, what happens if you are not a hormone addled young man with self esteem issues? The MC still seems like a side story but gets to take center stage at times. It’s a good story just a bit less than a great first. Again Matt Godfrey was excellent. He is excellent at bringing this world alive. Great narrator.

keep it up

Well I'm enjoying the series. I wasn't sure about Lucy at first but I like her and thought WTH when she got shot. Hopefully since the next book is titled Lucy that means she will live. Still I'm also waiting for Orson to control his beast and become the true powerhouse he should be
