Summary

Dominic Moretti was dealing with a lot of issues. Life hadn’t been easy since returning home from Afghanistan. His marriage was on the rocks, his sports betting was out of control, and he was hanging out with the wrong cronies in Manhattan’s Little Italy - just another war hero who couldn’t piece his life back together in the real world. Also, there was that strange, annoying feeling that he was being watched....

Humankind was indeed being evaluated, by the highly advanced Khantam Lom, an alien species in control of much of the galaxy. Did this selfish, war-mongering, human race warrant protection from the soon-to be-invading Wikk Empire? An insectile species with insatiable appetites, the Wikk were hell-bent on subjugating Earth as one of their many farming settlements.

So the adventure begins. Dominic inadvertently saves the life of a Khantam Lom Observer, and everything changes. Humankind has but one - seeming impossible - shot at avoiding a catastrophic fate. Dominic won’t be able to do it alone, but will the ragtag team he’s assembled be enough? Will any of them survive long enough to make a difference?

Really interesting!

Before getting into the book it was a little off what I usually go for so I wasn’t expecting much but was pleasantly surprised. Give it a shot, it’s pretty good.

Different and enjoyable story concept

I enjoyed this story, but didn't care for the introspection during critical moments, nor the lack of focus during battles while the hero is thinking about a woman's beauty, so not going to happen during a battle! 😊

Stupid getting stupider

The purple hart ,silver star veteran befriend an alien, and goes to war. From that moment he gets dumber and starts making more errors off judgement putting himself and humankind’s future in jeopardy. The writer sets the hero in one after the next most brilliant trap that could have been avoided by a D&D player after 5 seconds of thinking. It’s so frustrating I had to leave the book for days and only restart after I had forgot about the frustration.

Should have been titled New York Italian monsters defend earth

Make that “not very smart” Italian mobsters. But if you really like New York Italian mobsters then you might like this book. I didn’t.

Just not good enough

Not good, story was thin and with characters without any personality everyone felt like they where scripted characters.

Great story

I really loved this book and would have given it a 5 star rating across the board, but it leaves you hanging with a sequel. Hope they do a book 2.

okay but not stellar

an interesting story but not unique in nature.
I Don't think I got emotionally close to any of the characters. it was just a story
I'm sure there'll be a follow-up book, but I'm not so sure I will be reading it Born in this case listening to it.

Liked the story! Perfect narration!!!

Over all this was a pretty good story but it did get ridiculous at times. I mean, if you're going to save the world from aliens that are carnivores and humans are going to be breakfast, lunch and dinner, you don't build so much time trying to save one little girl, who shouldn't even been in the book, when all of humanity is at stake.

However, I listened to this on Audible and the characters voices are simply wonderful, especially Gordo, the mafia member. And they all had some pretty funny lines. I enjoyed it.

No romance and the F-bomb was used 88 times.

As for the narration: To be honest I got this book because it sounded okay BUT mostly because Adam Gold was narrating. He did the series about Jack Winchester and I loved every book because of him. He's an awesome narrator.

A watcher assists Earth.

A watcher from an advanced Alien Race assists in the saving Earth from an insectoid carnivorous species.
