About this listen

August 1, 1914, Berlin: Kaiser Wilhelm II cancels the German invasion of Belgium over the objections of his generals, sending his armies east against Russia instead of west to France, and sets off a chain of events that will radically change the course of modern history.

Gray Tide in the East is the best-selling counterfactual history of the First World War, if the Germans had not invaded Belgium in 1914 and thereby brought Great Britain and, eventually, the United States into the war. The carefully researched story is told by a host of real historical figures both famous (William Jennings Bryan, Winston Churchill) and obscure (Albert Dawson, Joost van Vollenhoven) and spans the globe from Washington, DC to Hanoi, from bloody battlefields to the secret chambers of diplomats.

What if 1914

I've always been fascinated by what if....
World War one changed everything it comes down to Belgium in that the UK joined in the war because of treaty with Belgium and if Germany had not invaded we would have had no reason to join the war.
This take on what would have happened was very well done and believable well wouth listening to.

Interesting

A very interesting story about what might have happened if.... The Kaiser Wilhelms German troops went West and thus started World War 1, one of the bloodiest wars in history, but what if they had gone East? This is a most interesting listen.
Highly recommended.

An alternative view of the war very interesting

I enjoyed this alternative view of the war it was quite intriguing and as a person interested in WW2 was interesting to get the view from a different angle, narration was very good and informative

A very well done historical fiction ‘what if’

I am a big fan of historical fiction, and sometimes I find alternative history type books off-putting, This book, however, was so well thought out and researched that I found myself really enjoying the story. The dialogue between characters seemed to be both believable and spoken like the times (or at least made me feel like it was from the times). Truly a well done book.
