Summary

A New York Times Best Seller

“My life was a complete mess, and God bless all of it. Because it’s in the messes where we learn the most - as long as we slow down enough to realize what God is trying to show us.”

Suddenly in the spotlight, 24-year-old Hannah Brown realized that she wasn’t sure what she wanted. After years of competing in beauty pageants, and then starring on The Bachelorette and Dancing with the Stars, she had become incredibly visible. There she was, in her early 20s, with millions around the world examining and weighing in on her every decision. She found herself wondering what it would mean to live on her terms. What it would mean to stop seeking approval from others and decide - for the first time - what it was she wanted from her own life.

An honest and earnest examination of her own mid-20s, God Bless This Mess is a memoir that doesn’t claim to have all the answers. Hannah knows she doesn’t have all the answers. What she does have is the insight of someone who has spent critical years of her youth under public scrutiny. Thus what emerges is a quarter-life memoir that speaks to the set of difficulties young women face, and how to move through them with grace. By pushing against her engrained need to seek approval, and learning how to think critically about her own goals and desires, Hannah inspires others to do the same - and to embrace the messiness that comes hand-in-hand with self-discovery (even it that sometimes means falling flat on your face).

Using her time on The Bachelorette as a launching pad, Hannah doesn’t shy away from the most painful experiences of her life: moments when her faith was tested, when she feared it was lost, and the moments when she reclaimed it on national television. “And Jesus still loves me.” Fans will be inspired by the never-before-told stories: the ones about facing depression and anxiety during her pageant years, the ways in which therapy and journaling have proven to be a saving grace, and the previously private moments - both at home and on television - that have shaped the star’s outlook.

Honest and emotionally urgent, God Bless This Mess is a reminder that true growth doesn’t come without strife - and it’s through those dark, messy moments that self-acceptance and love can bloom.

Better than expected!

I was looking forward to reading this but figured it would be a strong 3 out of 5 stars. Incorrect. I listened to the whole thing in 24 hours. Great book, funny moments, juicy moments, a lot of introspection, and extremely relatable in parts. Hannah comes across as imperfect, growing, humble, and genuinely fun. It was a lot more religious than I usually appreciate, but it’s not a deal-breaking amount if that’s not your thing. Loved it!!

Unexpected Surprise!

Like most people reading this book, I'm a Bachelor junkie who initially purchased this for the "tea". Upon actually diving in, I was pleasantly surprised by how much advice I was able to take away from this book, and how touched I was by listening to Hannah's story. Hannah does an excellent job narrating for the audiobook. Alot of times I tend to struggle focusing when listening to audiobooks because of how monotone or grating the narrators can be, but Hannah's voice is animated and sounds pleasant throughout.

As far as books by Bachelor Nation members go, this one is an absolute must read.

An Inspiring & Emotional Bio

Reading this felt like having a conversation with Hannah, only you can’t reach out to offer a supportive hug. It is heart breaking to learn about all of those times when I enjoyed watching on the Batchelor, Bachelorette, or DWTS that she wasn’t always the happy woman that she seemed to be. The pressure she put on herself to be everything to us, the public , and her friends & family, was more than most people could bear. I recommend this book to everyone. Hannah provides an honest account of how societal & cultural pressures have shaped her life and choices.

Yes there is also plenty of tea to enjoy too!!

Thank you Hannah!!!!
Stay strong

Life is a classroom

I LOVED this book! Thank you for sharing all of yourself. Especially your path with the Lord. Your comment about life being a classroom was right on. We are either learning from life’s lessons or running away from those lessons. When we can get to the point where we can accept those lessons, that’s when we are truly becoming our authentic self that God made us to be.
So happy you are in that place. I wish you blessings in your continued journey.

Don't judge a book by its cover!

After getting to know Hannah B on the bachelor and bachelorette, I felt somewhat close to her. I knew I had to get the book! I'm so glad I did because there is so much more to her than just a pretty face! Her life has made her overcome so many situations that so many of us overlook. I encourage any one who doubts themselves or needs to know there are others to relate to, to read this book! Thank you Hannah Brown! Your book has shown me more than you know.

Down to earth

God Bless This Mess by Hannah Brown was an easy and interesting listen. Hannah narrates the book and I do appreciate that, she did a good job. I like how she's vulnerable in her memoir, she doesn't always try to shine the brightest light on herself. Hannah tells of mistakes she's made and comes across as down-to-earth and honest. I enjoyed watching her on The Bachelorette and Dancing with the Stars, so it was fun to hear some 'behind the scenes' from those shows. Overall, I would definitely recommend this book.
