Summary

Kris was living a totally normal life as a 23-year-old: travelling the world, falling in love, making plans.

However, when she found a lump in her boob and was told that it was not only cancer, but also incurable, life took on a completely new meaning. She was diagnosed at an age when life wasn’t something to be grateful for, but a goddamn right.

Little did Kris know it was cancer that would lead her to a life she had never considered: a happy one. From founding a charity to visiting Downing Street, campaigning at festivals to appearing on TV and being present at the birth of her nephew; in the face of all the possible prognoses, Kris is surviving, thriving and resolutely living.

Glittering a Turd is more than just another cancer memoir, it’s a handbook for living life to the fullest, shining a new perspective on survival and learning to glitter your own turd, whatever it might be. Kris has survived the unsurvivable for 12 years. Here, she begins to discover why.

"Kris writes with such ease, sprinkling humour and glitter in all the right places. Glittering a Turd is the life-affirming boost we all need." (Giovanna Fletcher)

"With some extraordinary writing and brutal honesty, Kris’ story never lingers on tragedy. Instead, we are offered humour, motivation and hope. It is a manifesto for how to be alive. Amazing & thought provoking

What an amazing book. Kris’s frankness, honesty, fun and laughter make this whole listen leaving a huge mark on my soul. It’s lovely to hear her emotional and thought process throughout her life resonating with my own and yet also inspiring me to reevaluate my own journey. And of course a great reminder to coppafell of the boobies! Thank you Kris x

I soaked up every word.

I have just finished this incredible book. Kris’s attitude towards life is inspiring and something we could all learn from. I cried listening to her talk about grief after recently losing my dad and grandma. As someone who finds illness and death a huge trigger for anxiety and ocd the book has really given me a different outlook on both. Thank you for writing this book and for encouraging young people check their boobs/chests. As a teacher I will make my form class aware of the work you do.

Beautiful

I was aware of Kris before listening to this audiobook, but hearing this really made me feel like I know her. She’s been dealt some rubbish hands in life, but if this book teaches you anything, it’s that you are the master of your own destiny. Thank you Kris. As someone your age, I can’t imagine going through what you have. I really enjoyed this book and would recommend to anyone, not just those with cancer or those who usually go for autobiographies. Having the author narrate really brought the book to life. Thanks Kris - a beautiful listen, I’m sad it’s over!

A powerful and fun listen

Definitely worth a listen! Kris tells her story and life lessons in a way that is easy and fun to read and relate to. She’s lighthearted, but also shares powerful messages that she’s learned living with cancer.

Loved it

Just loved it. So easy to listen to, I kept finding opportunities to listen! Made me laugh, cry and everything in between.
Not a cancer warrior myself, but lived with the devastation in immediate family, it made me feel appreciative and thoughtful. Already recommend to my friends!
