Summary
Gist is a powerful book that reviews and examines what the journey to adulthood entails, along with a clear look at those parenting efforts that have proven not to work over the years. ''Many hours and much emotional energy are spent in parenting strategies where nothing positive is produced.''
Gist is a fascinating look at many aspects of life that wouldn't typically be associated with parenting. But the result is a new way to think about parenting that is effective, efficient, and enjoyable. The audiobook's focus on life-readiness offers parents a new lens through which to see their parenting interactions and translates to an approach that eliminates many of the power struggles and ineffective patterns that can rob families of much of their joy.

As a pediatrician, I couldn’t agree more.
As a pediatrician and a parent of two teenagers, I found this book to be so very helpful. Parents are way too stressed, including myself, parenting. This book gives insight to how to lessen the stress and practical ways to approach many of these universal situations. I’ve already applied 4 strategies this weekend with my 13 year old and feel like a winner! I never thought I would be so happy about his baseball pants not fitting him which we found out right before the game. We had asked him twice to try them on about a week before and he said he’d do it later! So now...it’s on him and I just smiled as he squeezed into his pants and smirked at me that thankfully they were stretchy! He got the lesson and there was no nagging. I plan on reading it again and buying copies for some of my struggling patient’s parents.

Very helpful
I loved this book and have recommended it to many of my friends. Not everything will be relevant to all parents but it is a practical and sometimes challenging look at how to rethink parenting. Quite a few times I felt myself starting to feel tense and wanting to disagree with the with the authors, then they would give a real life example and suddenly I saw things in a whole new way. I think this book is relevant to all parents (and anyone working with kids) but I think it is especially relevant to parents whose kids are starting to head towards the teen years.

Lots of interesting topics
Loads of thought provoking material. Listened to it with my husband. We struggled to finish because we took breaks between topics to let the advice sink in. We'd recommend this book to anyone looking to improve their parenting game.

Solid and helpful
This book has given my husband and I some good foundational common ground as we parent through the teen years. It may not all be revolutionary, but as a package it has prompted a positive direction to our family dynamics. My summary as I share this book and these concepts with my friends and family - when our children are born we provide and protect; as they grow we make a gradual shift to preparing them for adulthood. This book provides a lot of practical tips to help us all be successful in that venture.

A must read for any parent
So much valuable, practical information/guidance for any parent with any age child. I have 5 kids and found great insight for each of them and how to parent them. The book does not shame by, pointing out all the mistakes we as parents make, but instead offering information on how to understand children's minds and how best to parent them. The duel narrators did a great job and I loved the "Gist of it" at the end of each chapter.

Helpful, practical
I have read several parenting books, and this was the most helpful and practical resource I have found. Very helpful advice on guiding your kids’ behavior, preparing them for life, and decreasing stress in the home. A must read for parents with kids at any age!
