Story
The Zombie War came unthinkably close to eradicating humanity. Max Brooks, driven by the urgency of preserving the acid-etched firsthand experiences of the survivors from those apocalyptic years, traveled across the United States of America and throughout the world, from decimated cities that once teemed with upwards of thirty million souls to the most remote and inhospitable areas of the planet. He recorded the testimony of men, women, and sometimes children who came face-to-face with the living - or at least the undead - hell of that dreadful time.

Many of those who survived the war have since died, taking with them the stories and memories of the most devastating and important struggle that mankind has ever waged.

MSF - THE GIFT THAT KEEPS ON GIVING
- By Peter Odukwe on 03-09-21
Summary
The acclaimed and eagerly anticipated fourth thriller in the zombie apocalypse series from the author of Day by Day Armageddon and Day by Day Armageddon: Beyond Exile, for fans of the smash hit show The Walking Dead.
In a desperate bid to survive as hordes of bloodthirsty undead now dominate the ravaged US population, a navy commander discovers an incredible secret about the pandemic in this fourth novel in the acclaimed Day by Day Armageddon series.
Task Force Phoenix may be humanity's final hope, and the narrator's agonizing decisions could mean living one more day - or surrendering to the eternal hell that exists between life and death.
Ghost Run is a suspenseful, gripping, and intelligent thriller that will terrify die-hard horror fans and reinforce J. L. Bourne's reputation as "the new king of hardcore zombie action" (Brad Thor, author of Act of War).

and then I did this and then I did that and then..
If this book wasn’t for you, who do you think might enjoy it more?
Teens on a zombie kick.
Would you ever listen to anything by J. L. Bourne again?
The journal style was new to me in the first two books. Some of the ideas in them so different. But Shattered hourglass and this one have gone the other way. Which is a shame. So I might sample them in the future, but they'd have to offer something new and unique like in books 1 and 2.
Have you listened to any of Jay Snyder’s other performances? How does this one compare?
This man is 50% of DBDA for me. Amazing talent. First came across him in Hyperion. Natural storyteller.
What character would you cut from Ghost Run?
The more engaging aspects of the first two books were when he was alone and trying to survive. So this book is mostly more of that... but it doesn't work for me. I think it's because of another short audiobook he released which drains all the tension and constant threat from the pages.

Book 4 - Series Fatigue
If you’ve read the first three books, you’ve read this one. I appreciate this series greatly, and I used to even be a regular on the old Hotel 23 forums. With that being said, this book can be skipped by all but the most hardcore fans of the series. Throughout the book I kept getting the feeling of deja vu, especially book 2. Same/similar situations, rehashing or already known events. I finished this audiobook within the last hour and I can’t really pick out any standout moments, which is something I can do for the previous 3 books. Lastly, the ending is fairly abrupt and unsatisfying, which was an issue in book 3 as well. This is a wait for a sale type of book.

If you could sum up Ghost Run in three words, what would they be?
I enjoyed this novel a lot more than book three to which I gave a really bad review. It needs to be on the timeline for it to work for me. I still don't enjoy the characters name ( Kilroy) , make it feel like the author is hiding the main character from identity thief in a Zombie apocalypse? I will wait for the next novel !

A pretty good series ....kinda but worth the read.
my biggest issue with this book is that the amount of mistakes the main character makes the dumb an careless moves that are done over an over was not expected. the books before did not have that kinda stuff so why now ? who knows but dude shoulda been long dead so it kinda ruins the series for me . great performance thou.

Nice Return To Form
As a previous listener to the original Day By Day Armageddon trilogy, I was so pleased to see this return to the form I so loved in the first and second books.
Good story, well acted/read, and plenty of cool gear and kit to enjoy along the way. Most notable and enjoyable was "Checkers" which was an absolutely cool angle and never felt overused or like a cheat.
On a side note, there is a definite sense of what I call the Fading Zombie Effect. Simply put, over time and repeated exposure, they're just not that scary anymore. You can see the same thing with The Walking Dead. After a while, they're basically just backdrop and more of roadblock obstacle than anything else. Heck, sometimes they're ACTUAL road blocks. The only real danger from them seems to be in swarm mode, and even that has kind of lost its effect as something that creates much suspense. Not the author's fault, just the natural effect of over saturation in the market. The human antagonists were far more interesting.
Great listen.
