Quite enjoyable
I'm gradually listening to all the Joe Gunther books in order and I'm enjoying them all. This was good, but not quite as good as the last one: The Sniper's Wife. On to the next one.....

Never disappointed in this series of books. Really good listen wonderfully read every tale is very different moving the emphasis around different characters in the group makes for a very different tale.

Yet another great story
I love the characters and the storyline was a bit nail biting when I thought Sam had been caught. Looking forward to the next one

Nice change with Sami in the lead.
I liked this book both it and The Snipers Wife moved Jo back and passed the baton to his two lead detectives…..much better at his age especially as he is so morose.
Good to get to know more about other members of the team, I still don’t think the new Federal Agents thing is really gelling. It’s more political and less about fighting street crime
But I will keep going with the series, live in hope that Jo will retire and Gail will move away and become a Politician.

Disappointing
After the last book mainly focused on Willy Kunkle Archer Mayor must have decided to focus on another character Sammy. This doesn't seem to work as well and the character just becomes a one sided cliche of every other under cover lady cop. End to end cliche encounters with clichéd drug characters. The plot also seems under prepared or thought out and the ending is also disappointing. The fact it has to be largely explained by Sammys narrative either shows a quick way to end or it just wasn't working. Of all the books so far this is the weakest in my opinion.

Intrigued
4.5* rounded down because of the ending which was a letdown, however the whole premise is good and throughout the Occam's Razor scenarios was surprisingly underplayed.

Hmm!
It’s not that the story is bad, it was fine but they are becoming tiresome. It’s more like a weekly TV drama than a book series.
Again, Joe and Gails “relationship”, is just tedious!
The stories in the books are, to me, completely separate from the characters, these books span years but there’s no dimension or growth in their characters. The way they behave is so gung ho and yet they’ve been in these professional roles for years, supposedly.
Yes, I know it’s fiction but it still has to make sense.
It’s fine to concentrate on the crime and I really don’t need to know about their personal lives but if all the adolescent insecurities are raised in every single book, which they are, then the relationships do need some depth to give us some insight. Otherwise we’re just listening to the pointless, endless moans of characters, and really as that’s all that ALL the “relationships“ represent then leave them out and concentrate just on the crimes.
I think this is my last Joe Gunther.

Big fan
A good story and well narrated. I really enjoy the multiple imperfections in the characters.
