Summary

For more than 20 years, the most intense and prolonged gang war in British history raged on the streets of Manchester. Warring factions left at least 40 dead and made headlines across the world. This best-selling account tells how vicious battles for control of drugs, turf, and protection rackets blighted the reputation of one of Europe's most dynamic cities and saw the coining of the sinister epithet "Gunchester".

By acclaimed investigative author Peter Walsh, Gang War is a powerful and disturbing account of an extraordinary crime phenomenon.

Brilliant story of Manchester gangs in the 90s and 2000s

Well read and fascinating story of the gangs over a few decades… the Noonans and one punch Doyle and Paul Massey. Even white Tony. If you heard the stories this puts it all into a well encapsulated and riveting tale.

I never knew Manchester was this bad

Appalling history of crime across the city. Well researched and I’m assuming factual. The incredible lack of care exhibited by these ‘gangsters’ makes one’s blood run cold. Give them a rifle and a uniform I’m convinced they wouldn’t have been as ‘fearless’

A good listen

A good listen, a good base for people to understand what happened in the 70s, 80s and 90s. The rave scene back in the day was fantastic and a lot more brutal than this book was allowed to tell

Not too bad a listen!

The overall story is quite good but why the narrator feels the need to put on stupid voices when he's quoting someone I don't know!

Awful narration. Whiny and startled.

I have read this book and thought the audio version would be worth a listen. It isn’t. In fact it ruins an excellent book. Why does Graham Mack the narrator think every verbal exchange has to be in a faux high pitched Manchester accent? Every comment sounds as outraged and surprised as if members of the GMP had burst into your bathroom whilst you were on the toilet. Became too irritating after the first 8 chapters.
