Summary

He inched forward, his mouth opening as his foggy brain caught up with what his eyes were seeing. The body of a man, his blank eyes gazing at the stars.

When a homeless man is found murdered in picturesque Lincoln, Northolme-based DS Catherine Bishop is drafted in to infiltrate Phoenix House, the shelter where 'Mackie' occasionally spent the night. Working undercover with a new team is tough enough, especially as Catherine is still dealing with the emotional fallout from a previous case, but when someone close to her is critically injured in what may or may not be a related attack, the stakes are even higher. Everyone who knew Mackie seems to have something to hide. How do you catch a killer when no one is willing to talk?

Liked that everyone was treated equally; good or bad.

The best of the Plus Catalogue

I've seen some reviews being mean about the narrator's accent but it was like a breath of fresh air. The switch in one character's accent from Welsh to English seems due to the text explaining where she was from - the actor's don't get to read that far ahead and nobody is listening for continuity. It happens in the best of audiobooks. My only gripe is that character's who could only be in their 50s were portrayed in the previous books as wobbly voiced and decrepit sounding, but the story rolls along and it beats alot of the godawful crime fiction you have to pay for...

The best of the trilogy

Really ebjoyed the story. Still distracted by the thick nothern/Yorkshire accent and male characters sounding more like schoolgirls and women sounding like old grannies. And the pronounced word 'bur-ba' which took me time to realise was the word - baby along with other words I did not work out again, was distracting.
