Summary

Long lives are being cut short in this thriller from the bestselling DI Nick Dixon crime series.

A retired teacher is found dead in her Somerset home on a cold January night. At first glance, it is a routine unexplained death and a simple referral to the coroner, until a neighbour reports an unscheduled visit from an occupational therapist an hour before the body was discovered.

Detective Chief Inspector Nick Dixon is convinced the elderly woman has been strangled—a cause of death confirmed by the pathologist—and a murder investigation is launched.

More victims are soon found—a second retired teacher who died in eerily similar circumstances in Devon. Then a possible third victim is exhumed in Dorset.

Leading a regional task force, Dixon must find the connection between the victims. As the coincidences mount, he begins to fear he has stumbled on something premeditated and deeply sinister—a serial killer targeting the elderly in their own homes.

Excellent storyline, great narration!

Another great book from Damien Boyd. A brilliant narrator too. A real treat! So good when you don't guess 'who did it' half way through. 😄 Many thanks.

Damien Boyd does it again.

After a brief flirtation with Ross Greenwood to fill my Damien Boyd shaped hole, I thought I may have had rose tinted memories about how good the DI Nick Dixon books were…how wrong I was!

This is another excellent yarn from the king of police procedural. Gripping but not fantastical and more twists and turns than a ride on the waltzers!
He somehow manages to make each instalment as good as the last and I just could not stop listening to this. I’m only sorry that I’m going to have to wait so long for the next one.

The icing on top of this wonderful cake is the incomparable narration of Simon Mattacks. He really is the master of his craft. Simply superb.

Excellent work from all concerned.

Another great book in this series

I really enjoyed this one. Lots of twists and turns , so many I got a bit confused at one point . The narration was excellent. I have listened to all the books in this series , it is one of my favourites.

Hit expectations!

Good plot, well narrated, very satisfying untangling and laying out of the threads. Knowing the places and settings adds an extra plus.
