Summary
The new novel from best-selling author Graham Norton
In his tense and darkly comic new novel, Norton casts a light on the relationship between mothers and daughters, and truth and self-preservation with unnerving effect.
Carol is a divorced teacher living in a small town in Ireland, her only son now grown. A second chance at love brings her unexpected connection and belonging. The new relationship sparks local speculation: what does a woman like her see in a man like that? What happened to his wife who abandoned them all those years ago? But the gossip only serves to bring the couple closer.
When Declan becomes ill, things start to fall apart. His children are untrusting and cruel, and Carol is forced to leave their beloved home with its worn oak floors and elegant features and move back in with her parents.
Carol's mother is determined to get to the bottom of things; she won't see her daughter suffer in this way. It seems there are secrets in Declan's past, strange rumours that were never confronted, and suddenly the house they shared takes on a more sinister significance.

Pales in comparison…
I have been a huge fan of Norton’s books ever since his entrance into the literary world. His books easily rank amongst my favourites of recent years.
I was especially excited for this latest instalment. I was equally hopeful that Forever Home would help me forget about the highly disappointing tv adaptation of his debut novel Holding. (I couldn’t bring myself to even watch the last episode- it was that bad!)
I’m disappointed to say that despite a promising start, Forever Home lacks the heart of Norton’s previous novels.
The characters and the plot are totally unbelievable. The story ends up reading like a bad ITV drama (Sort of like Holding)
Graham’s narration however remains strong especially of Moira, who did make me giggle.
Fans of Norton’s books should definitely still use a credit on this. Just be aware that’s it pales in comparison to his previous works.
I will remain hopeful for the next novel…

Story bit far fetched but enjoyable
This is the best of Grahams books by far. The mother Moira is hilarious (in a dark sort of way) and bar the subject matter is true to the Irish mammy. I finished this book in 2 days. For anyone who doesn’t like the swearing, just know that in Ireland this is par for the course, we don’t even notice we’re doing it!

Another wonderful book from Mr Norton
Really enjoyable book. Interesting story which was funny, sad and touched on real life issues in a sensitive and informed way. The story kept you enthralled to the end. Great narration by Graham Norton who brings the characters to life.

Forever Home by Graham Norton
Graham Norton has a pleasant voice and his performance here is mildly entertaining. However the story is complete tosh, and I expect the author knows this. Starting off as a gossipy soapy character based story you are continually waiting for‘something to happen’ . When it does, the story goes downhill into the ridiculous. Surely the author could do better than this. Not recommended

I think you’d call this…
…a romp. By which I mean it’s fun, funny and, in places, genuinely exciting. It rattles along at a good pace, is well crafted and well told. And, as you might expect, the author narrates it superbly.
This is the fourth (I think) Graham Norton that I’ve listened to. They’re all good, but I think this is the best. Well worth it. And here’s hoping for more.

Predictable
The story was slow and disappointing. I usually love Graham Nortons books but this fell well short.

I Just LOVE Graham Norton’s Books!
Graham has famously said: “You think you don’t have time, but you do!” I am for one, beyond happy that he has time to write such lovely fun, exciting, mysterious & charming books with authentic real to life characters- The highlight for me is that he also him narrates the books, making me feel like he’s right there next to me in the car, in the kitchen, cooking or just relaxing with my feet up.
I absolutely adore his show and his autobiography!! His fun, witty and sharp mind is always refreshing!!
