Summary

On the face of it, representing a widow in an accidental death case should be routine. Sergeant Maynard, a Royal Air Force policeman, died in a simple motorcycle accident. The problem is, Mrs Maynard insists her husband was murdered. Sceptical at first, Charles realises she could be right; something much more frightening is happening at the airbase.

As rifts in the corrupt Metropolitan Police are revealed and the threats to Charles and those he loves escalate, he begins to wonder–has he finally bitten off more than he can chew?

Force of Evil, based on a true but unpublicised case of multiple murder, is a sixth crime novel in an exciting historical series, the Charles Holborne Legal Thrillers–gritty, hard-boiled mysteries set in 1960s London.

This author can do no wrong.

Another great story by Simon Michael. I love how the characters develop with each book. I didn't want this one to end.

Addictive series

The narration is by a top man and the stories are well written and obviously well researched. I was interested that I have also come from a family that was expelled from Spain after the Spanish Inquisition and like the character I had a Grandfather who married outside the “Faith” and my Father subsequently suffered during his childhood as an outcast.

My favourite so far

As a once aspiring Barrister myself, and now practising only Pro Bono this entire story is right up my street. As well as the legal background, I am also quite familiar with Cardington as well, though not from its RAF days, and the huge hangers still sit there as a reminder of the past.

Without doubt my favourite so far.

Fabulous!

I’m thoroughly enjoying this series of books, which are well written & with interesting storylines & characters, & insights into the criminal underworld of the 1960s. Furthermore, the narration by Colin Mace is fantastic - really easy to listen to & the array of voices he provides for the different characters is just excellent. I’m really looking forward to the next books in the series.

Michael and Mace do it again. Simply Brilliant!

Another brilliant story and narration. I have it on very good authority that book 7 and 8 will be coming out soonish on audible. Although I'm not sure I can wait that long. The story is so beautifully written that a certain part made me weep. I couldn't put it down and finished it in a day. I would definitely start back at the beginning and listen again.

Most enjoyable

Historically interesting, well written and a great narrator. I am listening to all the Holborn books and each is as good as the other.
My only gripe with this one was the naming of Rhodesia as Zimbabwe, as it was still Rhodesia at that time. But perhaps readers could not relate to that.

All work stopped to finish another excellent story. Possibly the best yet but have enjoyed them all.
