Summary

No smoke without a fire

It’s New Year’s in Sinful, and the competition for the New Year’s Queen is heating up as the warring churches go head-to-head. Fortune Redding is not the sequined dress kind of woman, but reluctantly agrees to partake in the debacle so that Ida Belle and Gertie can best their nemesis, Celia, who’s put up former Sinful mean girl RJ Rogers.

RJ and her friend Ricky Benoit left plenty of devastation in their wake when they fled Sinful after high school. So when they return and Ricky is found dead, there’s no shortage of suspects. Fortune, Ida Belle, and Gertie know all too well what it’s like to live under suspicion of a crime with no resolution. When good people become the targets of gossip, they know they have to rush to unravel the tangled lives of RJ and Ricky and expose a killer before the wrong person’s reputation is ruined. Or worse—they’re arrested for a crime they didn’t commit.

Storyline was the best one ever

Storyline was fantastic and narrator brilliant. The story was so well read and atmospheric that it brought me to tears. I adore this series from the very start to the very end. Tearfest indeed. Thank you, can not wait till the next audible book in the series.

Flame and Fortune

Another great mystery with loads of laughter all the way through, tricky suspects with a trail of victims they left behind them. With more up's and down's, in's and out's they rush around until they find what they need. Read brilliantly again by Cassandra Campbell.

Love this series!

Fortune, Ida Belle, and Gertie are at it again. They only mean good and are trying to help, but inevitably chaos ensues and someone's butt is in the air!

This one has a twisty mystery involving many people that knew each other from high school.
The need of money, and a murder.

I love listening to the stories of these ladies; it's like they are friends and you're there with them.

I love the ending, so many reveals!!!

Felt more Woke than previous

Maybe it was the fact that Ronald’s “uniqueness” that’s been forever loathed is now oddly embraced (and certain aspects confirmed), but there felt like other parts that were also possibly funneled through today’s woke editing process. Still a solid installment but not the best. Started strong but middle and end were just okay. I’m hoping I’m wrong and the next one doesn’t become more “progressive.”

Flame and Fortune is Another Winner!

My favorite characters are back! Sinful is still a hotbed of murder and shady characters abound. Gertie is up to her usual hijinks and Ida Belle is still trying to reign her in!

Jana Deleon does not disappoint!

I have listened to all of the Miss Fortune books. The stories are light and entertaining. Cassandra Campbell is a fantastic narrator. I think it's the combination of a fun story and excellent narration that makes the series so good! This book was as good as the 21 others.

No Surprise

Jana DeLeon did it again. This was another fun ride. I hope this series lasts another twenty years. This is a tough genre to do well. So many get boring or smutty or just have no ability to bring you in. Aside from Fortune and Gertie and Ida Belle, every character has a charm to hold dear. I don’t think there’s another series that can make me laugh out loud like this one can. If one exists, I haven’t found it. It is brilliantly written, the mysteries are always solid and I always regret them coming to an end. Bringing Harrison in is a great way to build some more interesting plots. I can’t wait to see what’s next.

Great story, odd pauses

Im a HUGE fan of this narrator. She creates incredible characters that provide additional depth to the story’s descriptions. I have read this entire series. LOVE the books, LOVE the author, LOVE the narrator. She’s absolutely one of the top narrators I enjoy. But in this story, she has a lot of odd pauses. It seems like maybe she cut out some unwanted sounds that happened between words and forgot to move the audio files so that they flowed. It also seems like she might be prioritizing ending consonants (like “T” “D” “G” “F” “K” “P”) and implementing a space between the next word to further enunciate, resulting in further odd pauses. This really took away from the story.

I haven’t finished the book just yet, I’m maybe 1/4-1/2 done, but so far the book is another goodie! These pauses are just really distracting that I felt compelled to write a review. Again- I’m a HUGE fan of this narrator. Crossing my fingers that upcoming additions to the series lose these odd pauses. I dont remember them in previous books. But I am loving the story:)
