About this listen
Deputy Dorie Berenger knew the day would go from bad to worse when she found a stoned alligator in the town drunk’s swimming pool. Then DEA agent Richard Starke shows up in Gator Bait, Louisiana, giving out orders and insults faster than you can cast a fishing line.
Dorie knows the residents of Gator Bait aren’t going to talk to a stranger, especially a Yankee, but she's stuck with Richard until he catches his bad guy. With no other alternative to restore peace to the small town, Dorie agrees to help Richard catch a criminal and in the process, uncovers decades of secrets that have been hiding deep in the Louisiana bayou.

Rumble on the Bayou
Dory has her world turn upside down when she finds drugs and cash in an alligator. With a new man in town, this mystery has lots of fun romance along with the danger. Along with light laughter through out the story. Read brilliantly by Johanna Parker.

Slow start but once it get moving, hold on tight!
It starts with an alligator bang but then lulls a bit as you meet the lead characters and I thought these 2 wouldn't hold my interest enough. I was wrong. In addition to some exceptional supporting characters the plot begins to wind and twist so seamlessly. I thought I'd figured it all out about 5 times before I actually found out who dunnit. The narrator totally fit the book too, I would happily listen to her again. Another great story involving a whole community from Jana DeLeon.

Okay for a stand alone novel
Okay for a stand alone novel but has nothing on the Miss Fortune series. Enjoyable story, fun characters though relationship developments are rushed.

mills and boon with icky sex
the love making was cringing. The story was repetitive, the characters were stereotypes and I only finished it to find out who the bad guy was. Loved the narrator and she did a good job with the voices.

Not a Patch on the Miss Fortune Series.
Having run out of the Miss Fortune series, I thought I would try another by the same author.
Yes, there are 'gators, bayous, a cafe, a baddie, a sheriff, a deputy, a DA agent and Paster Don...but that's about it.
The characters are thinly drawn, the female lead is not credible (my daughter who was listening with me, kept saying, "Yeah, right!", when more of her backstory came out.
Couple of er, 'graphic scenes' between the lead female and lead male, which read awkwardly in the context.
Feels like something the author wrote in her teens, or is a set of notes for a proper book.
Stick to Miss Fortune series, and long may she continue!

A Perfect Stand-alone Novel for Fans of the Miss Fortune Genre
If, like me, you’re a big fan of the Miss Fortune series by Ms DeLeon, this will hit the spot for a continued sojourn in the Bayou area! With equally colourful characters and a strong, intelligent female heroine, this novel tells a story from a slightly different perspective!
Gaiterbait is a town even smaller than Sinful, but paradoxically, just as sprawling. Everyone knows everyone and therefore it’s impossible to keep secrets. Or is it? It transpires that this small, unheard of town has more secrets than you can shake a stick at!
Read. Enjoy!

Ghastly!!
This is too unrelievedly twee and down-home for me, so I didn't get very far at all with it before I gave up. I had thought it might be unchallenging entertainment in the Janet Evanovich tradition... oh well!
