Finding Me is the deeply personal, brutally honest account of Viola's inspiring life, from her coming of age in Rhode Island to her present-day career.

In my book, you will meet a little girl named Viola who ran from her past until she made a life-changing decision to stop running forever.

This is my story, from a crumbling apartment in Central Falls, Rhode Island, to the stage in New York City, and beyond. This is the path I took to finding my purpose and my strength, but also to finding my voice in a world that didn't always see me.

As I wrote Finding Me, my eyes were open to the truth of how our stories are often not given close examination. They are bogarted, reinvented to fit into a crazy, competitive, judgmental world. So I wrote this for anyone who is searching for a way to understand and overcome a complicated past, let go of shame and find acceptance. For anyone who needs reminding that a life worth living can only be born from radical honesty and the courage to shed facades and be...you.

Finding Me is a deep reflection on my past and a promise for my future. My hope is that my story will inspire you to light up your own life with creative expression and rediscover who you were before the world put a label on you.

Outstanding

I don't know what I was expecting but it wasn't this. Ms Davis' description of the horrific relentless violence within her parents' marriage she witnessed as a child really affected me. And yet, she saw the humanity in her father and loved him. And yet, he changed and became a better man as he got older. There is much, much more to this story. It is a remarkable biography, vivid, raw and real. I winced, cried, got chills, laughed. All the feels. Thank you so much Ms Davis. This book is a gift, as are you 🤩❤✊🏿

You are my Shero Viola Davis!

I listened to this in one sitting. Beautifully written and spoken by the lady herself. So much resonated with me, found myself speaking to her throughout. In agreement, in shock, in rejoicing. Viola... thank you from the bottom of my heart xxx

Triumph, Joy, Love, passion, courage!

Some journeys are so remarkable that even when you’re able to read or listen to the story it’s hard to believe it was true.

But when the story is about someone living there’s something even more glorious, VD story is perfectly imperfect.

It makes me appreciate her even more, her talent, her courage and her beauty becomes even more meaningful.

This story is healing manifested in human form, and connects your humanity to hers!

Captivating

Amazing memoir, a story of triumph against ALL odds! Somehow it felt like a Terry McMillan novel, all the more wondrous how Viola lived through so much hardship to tell the story. A story of success written so vividly.

Truly magnificent

from the first line to the last chapter this book had me encaptured. the strength, vulnerability and hope that was convey by Viola with such honesty is humbling. halfway through the book I shared with my netball girls this book been a must to read. the book had a good mix tearjerking, thought provoking, spaces of reflecting and spoonfuls of humour helping the reader to digest (and remember in the latter chapters) some the trauma that is being shared. the last few sentences was a mind-blowing and personal message which resonates with me and my current journey/ discovery of self. thank you thank you thank you. the best book I have read in absolute years. Well done . People don't delay get this one today. Viola u have always been a actress I held in high esteem but Gurl you have gone to different heights for me. keep on keeping xx by the way I never ever write review so this must show you I good I thought this was.

I was a little disappointed. Riveting at times and boring at others. Spent way too long analysing some roles/movies. Ie The Help. I knew nothing about the public reaction to it and she really did bang on. Some parts didn't make sense to me. But I'd still recommend it overall.
